Unfortunately it went back

This my only gripe with this phone....is the screen. I have tinkered with the color calibration n finally got it right for now...since I am coming from high saturation Sammy I have it set lower on the flower with brighteness at 75%....i haven't changed it since Sunday so i guess it is working out. It really takes getting used to. From using this phone since Friday, last night I was on my Samsung Tab S2, my eyes got that pop out feeling of too many colors from the tablet. My hubby's Iphone screen even looks normal now....lol. Where as before I thought it was dull. Everyone at work thinks the screen is nice. But I hope LG's next phone is Amoled.

Has anybody compared the V20 screen to the G5? Everytime I look at the G5 screen in a store, I feel like it looks washed out, dim, and way overly blue (and I prefer a cooler screen tone over a warmer one).

It might be LG's theme colors as well. I have a Moto G4 (also IPS) and side by side, I find the Moto much brighter, better whites, and better colors. Sadly, the Moto is $200.

If you come from a Samsung AMOLED it's going to be different, that's for sure. I has the Note 7 and S7E which are much more vibrant.

But prior to that I was in an iPhone 6 plus and I would put the v20 screen on par with that. I've had no issue adjusting but I can see how some people would not like it. Hopefully LG adds some functionality to give people more/better control over the colors.

Here is mine. I think screen brighteness plays a huge role as well.

No amount of changing the color adjustment will fix the white balance. I feel I need to address a few things:

1) I think the V20 is a great phone, but the display is not accurate.
2) It has nothing to do with AMOLED vs LCD. It has to do with color accuracy. I came from Samsung, but I used Basic Mode (the most color accurate mode). It's not "over saturated" or "punchy". It's accurate. My other devices are a Pixel C, iPad Pro 12.9, Nexus 6p (being replaced with a Pixel), an Acer 4K PC monitor, and an Acer Predator PC monitor. I have calibrated both PC monitors with an Xrite colorimeter.
3) Every other display I use is calibrated, so the V20 NOT being calibrated stood out more than I thought it would.
4) I'm not trying to convince anyone to not enjoy the phone. I know plenty of people will, but I see some people around here saying things like "you can fix the display". Well, plain and simple, no you can't. You need to decide if you're ok with a display that can't display accurate colors. The vast majority of people probably will be. Will LG release an OTA to "fix" this? Possibly, but they have not done that historically. I held out a sliver of hope that they would have an sRGB mode in Dev Options like the Nexus 6p but they don't.

I didn't post to try and change anybody's mind. I hope everyone gets the phone they want and enjoys it. The display is/was (for me), the only real negative I found with the device.

That what I did on my note 7 too ... so I wonder if this will bother me when I finally pick up the V20 ... when a better promo come out.

I don't think we were trying to change your mind. We were just saying there are other options/ways to change the screen to your liking. But hey, enjoy the other phone you get and let us know how it goes. From this post I assume you will be getting the Pixel?

Oh, what I meant was that I wasn't trying to make/get other people to dislike the phone.

I have two lines, one line will have the Pixel, and the other will have an iPhone 7 Plus. It would have been the Note 7, but yeah.....

Unfortunately, short of a software update from LG, there's no way to properly calibrate this display. To most users it won't matter at all, but for those used to using displays that are have very accurate modes (Samsung's in basic, HTC 10, Nexus 6P in sRGB, Pixels in sRGB, Nexus 5X) it looks very different.

I see what u mean.
I think I'm gonna take a look at the Pixel just to see the screen. I must say I saw a Droid phone yesterday that my friend was gonna bring back. It looked awful to me too...I could't get past how glossy the glass was. At the end screens r just a personal thang.

Whew....guess since I don't see what the issue is, I'm ok :-D Loving it so far. Have a little screen flicker from time to time, but not enough to cause me stress.

Mine is opposite. After few settings I really like my screen. I have iPhone 7+ and V20 except iphone look warmer and bit brighter I see the screen is almost identical.

Comfort view on low is perfect. I have a droid turbo 2 as well and with this setting it doesn't look that different from the AMOLED panel. Not enough for justifying returning it, but again it's subjective so I get where some of the Samsung ppl are coming from, Samsung being probably the most significant departure to lcd

After having the G5 all summer and getting the V20, I have to agree. I turned on my previous Note 4 and noticed the yellowish hue right away. Same with my Tab S tablet.

That's what I set mine too. I'm pretty picky about phone screens, and I find the LG V20 display to be pretty nice. Text is nice and clear, no yellow/blue variation from top to bottom, and no over-saturation like the Sammy phones. The only think I don't care for is the 2nd screen light bleed-out in a dark room. But that's a side-effect of LCD vs AMOLED, so I can live with that.

Love this phone overall. Coming from the note 7 on basic mode , it's subpar in display quality in my opinion which is taking some getting used to, with low setting in comfort mode seems to make it acceptable.. Although this phone kills my old note 7 in performance and battery. Pretty happy so far.
