Unknowingly bought chinese version of smartphone - is this a problem?

Hi, I just purchased a Sony Xperia XZ Premium which I was told was international version. However when I turned it on, everything is in Chinese language. But I live in North America and speak English.

I think this is a Chinese version - is that correct?

Also Is having a Chinese version a problem when using apps from the Google App store (even if I find a way to change language to English)?

I think I might have to exchange the phone.

But what do you think? Should International version be in English when you first boot up? Or is it in Chinese?
