AC Question

I looked on my app list but can't seem to find what app is causing this but a little drop down bubble with an ad logo drops down on my main screen. I have to click on it then X out of the screen that appears to get it to close. Only clue I have us that it opens up on some window for Facebook mobile. Help

Welcome to AndroidCentral :) Thanks for the question.

Are you using the Official Facebook App on your device? There are some 'fake' Facebook apps out there that have more adds than normal.

Are you able to swipe the add away like a normal notification?
You shouldn't be getting add notifications like that. You can also have a look in the Facebook settings -> App Setting -> Notifications and make sure that most of the things are disabled. There are various things in there that can produce a lot of unwanted pop ups. Hope this helps

I just realized that it's not just associated with Facebook. The ads are not swipable because they drop down like a little round balloon from the upper right corner of my home screen. When I press on them they open another window to for example bmw.usa.com
My problem is compounded since my Applications Manager has disappeared and I can't pull up the screen that tells me more about my apps like which I downloaded most recently. Ugh.

Here is what I found to work when I Googled this. From a posting last year... seems to be a recurring problem!

May be slightly different depending on the model of your phone. I'm still on a Samsung Galaxy S5 and this has only *just* started the last couple of days ago.

Advice is:
Go to settings, click on Google - may have to scroll down to it (User & backup)
Under Services: click on "ads".
Select "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" and toggle the "opt out" button. *Mine was greyed out* so had to turn it ON (green) to opt out.
"Instruct aps not to use your advertising ID..." etc.

Seems to have worked for me... I hope it works for you too!
