Unknown or (Unknown) - When Dialing Numbers

During the 90’s heyday of NPA-NXX splits and redistricting of call zones, I gave up trying to remember when I could dial 7 or 10 digits. I just dial 10 now for everything, landline or cell, even when calling next door.

I never noticed the DInc had an issue with it ;)

I'm trying to remember the last time I actually dialed a phone number on my cell phone. I always just pull up the contact and hit "Call" when I want to call someone. My memory is terrible, so I let my phone remember my contact numbers for me. The only phone numbers I have memorized are my mom & dad's cells, the home phone I grew up with (that is now dead), and my work phone number (because I used to have to give it out about a hundred times a day). Everything else? In my phone.

As far as 7 or 10 digit dialing, in DFW they made 10 digits mandatory sometime when I was a kid. I vaguely remember the days when I could dial 7 digits if the person was in my own area code, and I remember when they changed it to require 10 digits, but it was so long ago that 10 digits just feels like how it's always been done. I can't imagine dialing just 7 numbers and actually getting anything.

I'm misting up a little. I remember when you could dial just the last 4 for an in town call, then it was the last digit of the NXX + 4 and the hue and cry when you had to dial all 7!

There I go dating myself again ;)

Wow, you ARE old! Do you have to use a magnifying glass to look at stuff on the Incredible?

(Just kidding! I had to poke fun, you set it up too perfectly :p)

To be fair it was United Telephone in the 70's, so their technology was a little behind the times even for the 70's, but I do find myself cussing Microsoft, Cisco, Kingston and other Tech manufacturers daily because I swear they make the Serial Numbers/Model Numbers and License keys smaller with every release! ;)
