unlink gmail email contacts from phone

what im reffering to is in youre phones "phone" contact list my email addresses from gmail are mixed in with the contacts that are just name and phone number
well if you dont want your Gmail to sync at all , you go to..
Settings>accounts and sync click on your email account to enable or disable sync,,, you can also shut of auto sync from this screen

but if i turn off sync wont that mean i it wont notify me of new messages automaticly? i mean only way i will know i have new mail is to open the gmail and manualy tell it to look for new mail? thanks

ok sorry , then do the following, check Auto sync, the click on the gmail account, then it will give you check boxs you can choose what you want it to sync

Thank you so much. For me, it was not a good idea to have synced gmail and phone. That action has run up a sizable data bill for each sync operation and announcement -- though the chime sounds nice. I realize that the person who posed the question had different answer in mind, but you picked the question in my mind up from the ether, and answered it.
I really appreciate that you shared your knowhow.
