Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

So I think I may have a problem. I didn't back up via nandroid or titanium when I flashed a Rom. What does backing up do and am I screwed?

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

Using this method I will be able to unlock my 1.5 hboot, then root. Will I be able to flash a custom recovery ? I want to install TWRP? Can this be done. Can I simply apply my PG86IMG.zip ? And let it flash it itself?

I have a evo3d with hboot1.4 , I am now doing my friends evo3d with 1.5 so I am a noob again ;)

Thanks guys

Followed everything to a T on the unlock bootloader through, and it didn't unlock my bootloader

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

Ok. I finally took the leap and I'm rooted, running clean ROM.

Couple of questions. How do I flash a new ROM? Is it as simple as holding the volume down button and pressing the power button then flash a new ROM? Am I able to flash a new ROM over top of cleanROM which I am currently running or do i need to remove cleanROM?

Also when I flashed clean ROM my apps didn't uninstall. I lost all my texts and stuff but my apps were still on the phone. Why'd this happen. Weren't all my apps supposed to be deleted?

Last question, how does twrp backup work? Do I need to backup everytime I install a new rom? If so, I have no clue how to use it.

Thanks all. This turned out to be super easy.

Flash a new ROM using the same instructions but replace the CleanRom with your Rom (make sure it is for your phone and provider). And YES... start at the volume down part (I think I have instructions for this on the first page)

Yes it will flash OVER the current Rom. Mo need to uninstall.
Your apps likely auto re-installed through Google when you signed in.
You never HAVE to make a backup.. it is just recommended. You can delete your old back-ups if you don;t want them (or better yet, move them to your PC). the backup is for if something happens to your phone (like you install something and mess it up) you can install your backup to get back to normal. Or back up to your stock rom if you made one. (Similar to Windows system recovery) You can load it and be back to the exact same state you were in when you made it.

Hi

I did all the process, and works nice.

Now I need help with my APP DSLR CONTROLLER ( your device (evo 3d 1.5 ) is not compatible with USB host mode ). So, how can I have this USB host on in my Htc EVO 3d HBOOT 1.5 usable please?:-$

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

ok i want to take my time with this....

Is it ok to unlock the phone first and then wait and do the rest later....I am not quite sure I completely understand the directions yet.

The first part witht he HTC walkthrough is easy but I just want to make sure I can still use my phone after the unlock before flashing the new rom

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

yes you can do them separate

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

When I get to step 7 i get this:
C:\rootevo3dnew> fastboot boot cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.137s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 1.154s.

Why does it say FAILED (remote: not Allowed)

Thanks in advance!

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

umm it says waiting for device but nothing happens on my phone. Looks like my phone also says RELOCKED at the top now. do I need to go back and redo a few steps?

Re: Unlock, root and install custom Rom on Hboot 1.5 in (3) steps

If it says "RELOCKED" at some point you relocked your bootloader. The waiting for the device is usually a driver issue. And make sure that you have USB debugging checked under settings.

I will defer to someone who has used the HTC tool for more info (lucky me 1.4!).
