Unlock SMS/MMS and calling with phone sim in SCH-I925

I have a verizon LTE note 10.1 with my SIM from a razr max in it. Data is working perfect and fast but I would like to enable at least text messaging with my existing mobile number. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Does this require root? I dont see the apps listed on the tablet for dialer or text messaging

The dialer might be titled "phone" and text messaging might be titled "messages". If not you can download any dialer or text messaging app from the Play Store, most are free.

I do not have those icons either. I have tried gosms and got an error trying to send a message saying service not available. I tried calling my number with the sim in my tablet and nothing came up on it. To clarify I did reboot the tablet

I did a little searching and found out that you can't make calls with out rooting and flashing a modded rom, didn't realize that. I would try searching the XDA forums. It's the best place for anything android, especially modding. I'm positive you'll find some help there.

Excellent info. Thank you very much. Any idea if I can do texting without flashing? Also any recommendations on a rom? I would be willing to do that but do not want to lose any functionality or stability

You might try Tabletsms(not sure if thats the exact name, I removed it from my tablet). I was going to use it with my phone and tablet but ended up never using it. I'm not sure if it will work in your situation but it's free and you have nothing to lose. Also, there were other apps that also did the same thing but I don't remember the names.
As far as what rom, mines still stock so I wouldn't know. I prefer stability over any features that 3rd party roms offer. They all seem have issues in one area or another.
