Did anyone else purchase their watch directly from Samsung and have trouble activating it with Verizon?

I bought mine for Christmas and plan to give my S2 to a friend for Christmas. I decided to get it fired up today. Nope ... Could not get it activated because Verizon doesn't have the device number in its data base and being a Saturday and Christmas Eve and Christmas coming up, it could be Thursday before I can actually activate it because a manager has to add the device number to the data base.

I am using the new one but cannot give the other watch for Christmas yet because of the phone line that I need.

Same issue here. I ordered mine from Best Buy. Says not compatible when I try to activate data for it. Reached out to Verizon about adding the device. Now waiting to see if they can.

There should not be a problem getting it activated, it is the time it is taking to activate them that is the problem. Verizon has to fill out a form with the device ID information and then get the number into its data base and it could take up to five business days. I am actually only on day two of business days since I started on Saturday and Christmas was just yesterday. That said, the error message this morning has changed so I am hoping it propagates over night and by tomorrow I can be wearing my new watch.

After the error message changed, I tried to activate but the information was still incomplete. I was on with a supervisor and she is going to keep checking and text me when we are good to go. She also found me a monthly discount on my unlimited plan, which will help because now my watch line is going to go from $5 to $10 and I added insurance to this watch because it is so nice and it is expensive. I was not overly concerned with my S2, which I purchased more than two years ago used from Ebay after the charging port of my Gear S broke.

Let me know how it is going with your activation. I put the blame squarely on Samsung for this mess. Samsung should have provided all the pertinent information to the carriers about the watches a long time ago.

Success! I tried again last night to activate data through the Gear app and it worked. Looks like Verizon was able to add the watch to their system. To clarify, my watch was purchased at Best Buy. It took Verizon about 36 hours, from my first call, to get it added. Hopefully yours we be working soon as well.

Yesterday it appeared I could activate through the gear app but it was not looking like it was going to attach to my Gears S phone number. Does your watch have its own dedicated number?

Here is a screenshot of the attempted activation. I need it activated on its own line.

When I activated my Watch through the Gear app, a new phone number was provided from Verizon. Verizon callls it "Number Share" with my cell phone. While the watch has its own phone number, it receives the calls and texts that are sent to my phone's number or the new number associated with the watch.

With some testing today, this is how it seems to work. When I have my phone with me, I am connected via bluetooth. If I'm away from my phone I can still receive calls, texts, and whatsapp messages etc as long as my phone is turned on. The Gear app on the phone needs to be running in the background in order to receive alerts on the watch. If my phone is shut off I can only receive phone calls, no texts or whatsapp messages sent to my phone number. I did also test and confirm that with my phone off I can receive texts or calls to the watch's number. So long story short, if I go out without my phone, I need to leave my phone turned on.

We are still trying to get my actual dedicated line activated. The device number has finally gotten into the system and everything went as scheduled about 90 minutes ago to actually activate but it is still not activating on the network. I hope the activation finally goes through tonight so that I can have a peaceful end to this nightmare.

I had a heck of a time getting my LG V40 I bought from Verizon to activate. It kept saying it failed and try later. I was just about to give up and go to the store when I got it. They need to work on their activation system I believe.
