Unlocked and Rooted - How Do I Flash the 4.0.4 Radios?

I can't get the file copied to my phone as either a media device or a camera. I have a Windows XP machine, don't know if that is the problem or not.

If I have the phone as a media device, it won't let me copy a zip file because it says it is not a media file and it asks me if I want to skip it or cancel it, both of which do not copy the file. If as a camera, it won't even recognize paste command.

Any thoughts?

Is there a particular folder on the phone where I need to put the zip file?

Also, I am running Windows XP and it will not let me copy a zip file to my GNex as a Media Device or as a Camera.

Did you find another way to get it on? Supposedly, for Windows, it's "easy." For Mac I had to DL an asinine app.

download the radio straight from your phone.

btw since it's a radio, you should really check the md5. not sure if that was in the notes dmmarck wrote up earlier.

try using airdroid. Its free in the market. It uses wifi to transfer files from your comp to your phone. Give it a shot. :thumbup:

It might have been within, but I directed her to the zip of the 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 package that was making the rounds a few days ago.

Generally, you want to check md5's to make sure the file is what it says it is. If it's from a trusted source, then it's a trusted source. But as a matter of good flashing etiquette . . .

yeah i dont worry about it with roms so much, but radios (if corrupted DL or wrong file) could potentially mess up the device.

Yup. Only thing scarier than radios (IMHO) is messing with voltage lol

I did that and it placed it in the download folder. When I have the phone connected as a media device, I couldn't see the file in the download folder. When I have the phone connected as a camera, it changed the suffix of the file to a bmp. I then tried to delete the file through Windows XP and it wouldn't let me.

I don't know why I can't write to the phone directly from Windows XP.

I kept getting the android with the red triangle but then I reflashed CWM Recovery and I got into recovery.

I selected the zip file and it installed. I ended up using the zip file posted on this thread rather than the one you sent me. I think I am going to go back to stock 4.0.2 and then try your files just to see. I really need to practice how to do this so it will be good practice for me.

Any idea why Windows XP is being so difficult? I installed the drivers but I wonder if XP is considered too old of an OS and the drivers aren't compatible?

So they flashed? Post a pic of them; sometimes only one will take. If that's true, then you have to download the 4.0.2 packet. But b/c you're on 4.0.2, they should be fine. I believe you want to see FA02 next to them, or something with FA. EK## = 4.0.2 radios.

Do you mean go into settings and then about phone? If so, this is what it looks like now (see attachment).

I think xp may just be outdated although it should see a zip file. I believe just about any os should see and understand a zip file. But it might be possible that xp just sees it as an image file hence the .bmp format. All in all it is an image file, an android image. I remember having a lot of problems with xp. Not encouraging words...I know.

When I was trying to copy/paste my pics from my laptop to my nexus. It just wouldn't work. I used airdroid and it was a snap. Moving other file types didn't seem to give me any problems at all. Pulling them from my nexus to my laptop and vice versa. But I am running windows7. So that may or not make the difference.

As for the help... not a problem at all. I'm sure you'd do the same if I needed the help. As well as everyone else that hangs around :thumbup:

GNex Girl - congrats, you have 4.0.4 radios. Some say it takes a bit of time for them to settle, but I noticed immediate dividends. Best of luck and enjoy!
