Unlocked S5 Get Updates Straight From Samsung?

I'm looking at buying an unlocked S5. I completely hate dealing with carriers for updates and I'd like to skip that part. I don't mind being slightly behind the Nexus line, as long as I can bypass carriers. I was wondering if I picked up the following unlocked S5 if it would get all updates from Samsung, or would I have to go through AT&T once I got it activated there?

Unlocked devices get updates straight from the manufacturer. It'll still get them quite a bit after the Nexus and other near-stock devices, but at least it'll be a few weeks ahead of the carriers
