Unlocked S7 SM-G930U updates

But T-Mobile model is already on July security updates. If T-Mobile or the corresponding carrier has to approve security or OS updates that's just stupid and no point buying the U model instead of the carrier model. I don't think that is the case, if it is then that's just plain stupid. Carriers aren't going to spend one minute of their time testing/approving unlocked model which they don't sell. It's hard to get them approve the phones they sell and no way in the world they will approve phones they don't sell thru their channel.

My guess is Samsung just being lazy not bothering since the number of people who bought the unlocked model is very low.

Or both. I mean all the carriers also sold the Nexus 6 which I guess gave them incentive to test and approve firmware. I'm just wondering why the phone is checking with t-mobile for firmware. It's odd to me anyways. It could be Samsung or maybe even t-mobile if they are somehow involved in approving updates. I agree though. If I had to point fingers it would be at Samsung.

Anyways, I know this this scenario with carriers being involved in approving an unlocked phone's firmware is possible because I have a nexus 6. Purchased unlocked from Google and firmware OTA's controlled by at&t. rawr... I'm just saying it's possible because it has happened before.

Really? I had all nexus phones bought from Google direct and never had carriers approve anything. It was always Google. I know for Nexus phones sold thru carrier channels they probably had to approve or something. But I always buy from Google direct and Google always pushed them direct and didn't have to wait for carriers.

Yup. This was the first and Last Nexus to do this on this...So Far. It was my understanding that this was the compromise google made so that the carriers would actually sell the phone. The more current Nexus 5X and 6P aren't even setup this way but on the same note none of the carriers actually sold them either. The only other time carriers were involved with Firmware updates on a Nexus was the Galaxy Nexus. Google actually had a CDMA variant made for and sold by Verizon and OTA approvals for that nexus were awful.

Yeah I understand that and rumors even point this year's Nexus to be on Verizon and other carriers selling direct. I'm pretty sure those phones may require some carrier approvals even though it's Nexus since they are sold at carrier channels.
But if you buy direct from Google store you should get updates direct from Google irrespective of carrier. If that wasn't the case before I'm pretty sure it will be like that at least on newer ones.

I hope not. I was happy to see that go away with the Nexus 6P.

I almost sold my Nexus 6 when I found out at&t approved ota's on my Nexus 6. I was angry that my unlocked phone was still jumping carrier hoops. I purchased it from google and expected my ota's from them. Well that is halfway true. The ota's do come from google but not until at&t gives the ok because I have an at&t sim inserted.

Hmm that may be evil AT&T, had no issues with Nexuses on T-Mobile. l could definitely see Verizon especially doing that, AT&T is not that far behind.

Yeah... I've been dealing with this issue on the Nexus 6 for a long time. Update paths would splinter depending on which carrier you were on. Carriers causing delays in major updates because of slow approvals. My Nexus 6 didn't get Marshmallow until January.... It was released by google to the Nexus 6 in October the year before.

I would have bought a OP3 or Axon 7 to save the cash. I buy premium for the waterproofing, more "stable" software, and the camera on the S7 is excellent.

It just sucks seeing the carrier's and international unlocked variants receiving updates over all of us.

I wish an update would push for the August update at least...

Just received an over the air update to my unlocked US Samsung S7, model SM-G930U. Now listed as build number: MMB29M.G930UUEU2APG9. Android security Patch: August 1, 2016. It is on the AT&T network. Still registers as h+ for speed on the notification panel. Tried Speedtest. No improvement over last original stock build. I haven't noticed any changes or additions so far.

Mine only registered h+ too when I first bought it. Fixed when I took it to an att store and they subbed a display s7 imei for the actual one.
