Unlocking and Rooting HTC One (Verizon)

Bex,
I successfully unlocked my bootloader with S-Off using the Weaksauce and Firewater method. it took 3 shots to pour firewater.

Verizon HTC One M7 4.4.2

Yes this is for Verizon. It also took me about 4-5 tries with firewater to achieve S-OFF. I'm not sure what I did differently the time that it worked, but finally, it did. Now I just haven't put any use to the S-OFF and i'm really not even sure what it's for.... installing custom firmwares? I dunno, as long as I can install downloaded apk's, remove bloatware (with Root Uninstaller), i'm happy. Weaksauce has achieved this

Quick question: If firewater is unsuccessful does it do any damage? I'm just wanting to be safe here lol. I see a few people saying they are successful and some saying it doesn't work. Plus every video tutorial is either outdated or is done on the M8 and which case I don't know if I should use the same commands as they do. So if someone can confirm it won't do any damage and also confirm I could use a tutorial of someone using the weak sauce firewater method on an M8 that would be great.

I bought an unlocked Verizon HTC One m7, but I think i'm experiencing the same issues as the people above... possibly. I can't update my phone because I live in Canada so I'm locked to Global Mode as opposed to being able to use LTE/CDMA mode which is required in order to complete a software update.

Has anyone figured out a step-by-step process on how to fix this problem? I have no idea what S-OFF or any of that stuff means.

S-off is how you get the phone unlocked so you can get root access to it and modify things that the big phone carriers would rather you not play with. Is your goal to install a custom rom, just to do an update, or remove bloat wear?
