Unlocking question

I have a moto g power. Paid cash for the phone. No money owed on it. It's only had service 6 months. Unlocking policy says 1 year continuous service. They also won't let me pay a fee to unlock the device. Do I have any other options? I know I can buy a code. Can I get in trouble for that? Will they blacklist the phone? Should I just sell it? Thoughts would be much appreciated.

Which carrier - Straight Talk is your MVNO. (You can be on AT&T, TMobile or Verizon - everyone else [except Sprint, if you think you still have them as your carrier] is an MVNO - they run a network, but they're not a carrier].)

And the MVNO wants 2 things (the carriers are the same in this) - no money is owned on the phone and no time is left on the contract. Since you still have 6 months left on the contract (if you didn't read it, now's a good time), you still have to pay for another 6 months, whether you use Straight Talk any longer or not. (It's like leasing an apartment for a year. After 6 months you can move out - if you pay the 6 months rent you still owe.)

Thank you. I don't understand how I buy a phone, at no discount, and have a wait time to unlock it. I understand with post paid services and the severely discounted phones. I guess I'll just sell it then. Appreciate the responses.

Straight talk. Bought it from Walmart.
I see , not familiar with those type of devices, but if they not willing to help , a good reputable unlock company should do it, it's not illegal to get it unlocked from a 3rd party source just got be careful who choose as there shady ones out there.
