I hoped after launch to root and rom to CM7, but unfortunately had wait like many others. We find out the CM ran into problems with Thunderbolt and similar devices. All shared the same fate of getting unofficial CM7. The Thunderbolt is still working out bugs with CM7 even to this day.

First question
What were the reasons for the Thunderbolt and similar devices not able to get official CM7 support?

Second question
Why with the unofficial CM7 almost perfected but still don't have any official support?

Lastly
Should we expect anything different with CM9 for the Thunderbolt and other similar devices?

i may be way off but this is what i read somewhere.

basically Gingerbread does not have LTE support baked into the software. because of this, or currently working LTE CM7 devices cannot be merged into the main-line CM7 code. so basically developers have to take the code and put in the work to get the LTE working (something officially supported devices do not have to worry about)

ICS does have LTE baked in. so the thunderbolt WILL (pretty sure i read that from Cyanogen himself) be officially supported.
we are basically waiting for HTC to release the ICS bits for an LTE phone(likely the Rezound) before the devs can proceed to getting it working for our phones

somone correct me if i am wrong.
but in short
GB =LTE not baked in =hacked official CM7 = not official
ICS = LTE baked in = no hacking to get the official working = official

I also believe it has to do with the fact that the TB has radios that are COMPLETELY unique, at least to last years batch of Verizon phones,in the fact that it supports data and calls simultaneously.

This. TB is only SV DO phone on the market. This is why it gets simultaneous voice and data on 3g. Also it really is the only true 3g phone on VZW because of that.

Also I think since it was hard for HTC to get Gingerbread on the TB, CM was not working on it. They wait for source if at all possible and only had froyo source for the TB.

It will be hard to get data running for pics, but I am sure it will happen.

Also tbolt code messed up other devices when synced to mainline I guess...
