Unofficial Official Battery Thread (EI22)

Between my daughter and I, we've had 5 different epics and all of them had the same type battery life.

I definitely have noticed a significant battery drain after the upgrade to gingerbread. Sigh. Any suggestions?

None that I'm aware of ATM.... I think its still early in the update to get an answer to some of these situations that are coming up.

Any recommendation for a battery app that shows the percentage remaining?
Download Spare Parts from the Market... You can look under the Battery options in there and you will see the true battery percentage...

Use Beautiful Widgets (Free) from Getjar.com ... It has option to install widget on homescreen showing percentage.

Root your device and flash my [THEME/MOD][ EI22] Stock Theme w/Battery Mod & CRT

You said "You need to be running a deodexed version of the OS. Stock GB/rooted won't work " with your mod. Is that still right? I'll use BW for now, though. Thanks.

Same here. I was able to make it most days, but not since the Gingerbread update. I now have to charge my phone fully each afternoon.

Yesterday, my phone went down below 50% by lunchtime and that seemed odd. But today it's been sitting here all day it is just barely depleted. I think that it is this yahoo mail app.

I play music and some people only use yahoo mail to get in touch with me. I've had the account since like 1997. So, i installed the app.

I think this thing just goes nuts checking for new mail. I deliberately haven't checked it all day today because I was getting suspicious.

I think that it doesn't let the phone sleep. It doesn't have a refresh interval in the settings. I may just can it and pop it into gmail or something.

sign into your yahoo account from a computer, go to settings and have your yahoo mail forwarded to your gmail account. That way you can get your yahoo email without the yahoo app. I have setup all my email accounts this way and now I get all my email in my google inbox.

All:
Anyone know of a good extended battery for the Samsung Infuse 4g? There are so many to choose from out there.

Battery life seems about the same as froyo for me, though I am a heavy user, both wifi and 3g, so I expect to charge every 6-7 hours or so. My wife has noted some improvement however she rarely uses her epic for web browsing.

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but turning off my wifi helped me out a lot. My phone has been on for 8h23m and is at 82%. I usually like to keep wifi on, since I get 0 to 1 bar of service in my house. But wifi seems to kill my battery very fast. I used to keep the wifi sleep policy set to 15 minutes, but that isn't really helping anymore.

For me, the problem seems to be with wifi.

For screen shots, just to let you all know, Droid@screen makes it really easy. It's a java program for your computer that shows a live screen of your phone on your computer, you can then just snapshot from your comp. It's free and it works great for demos as well.

Battery life wise I'm getting 2-3 hours more with Gingerbread in idle, but 2-3 less with heavy usage. I am going through the standard stuff to start refining it to see what improves it. My wife gets HORRIBLE battery life. Does the CDMA reset still need to be done on Gingerbread?

Try rooting and staying stock rom, but get Gemini App Manager and Titanium Backup Root and purchase the additional Titanium Backup Pro key. With Titanium you can either remove some apps or (safer) freeze them (you can unfreeze when you want to use the app) OR with Gemini App Mangr, you can open the app you want to stop autobooting and go in the Gemini app and config the autobooting options, like Google maps, I want to use it when I want to but I don't want it autobooting and running in the background. Freeze services you don't need (mentioned in other battery links) and use CPUSpy to see if your phone is sleeping when the screen if off. Again, you MUST root to gain control over these things, but you don't need a custom ROM.

mine is really poor :( im running Legendary rom 4.0.1 (since 2 days ago)

im thinking about going back to SFR 1.2. that rom was fantastic!

And not much screen time.

Did you revert?

Signal looked pretty bad. Were you in an active wifi zone during that time?

@Cheb, remember still very early in the GB game... I expect things to really get ironed out better over the next few weeks as the devs really get a better grip on what they are playing with. Lot has changed in the coding since Froyo and they have had to really rework their mods/hacks to work with the new GB.

My only thought, is Sprint or Sammy going to address any of these problems people are having on stock GB like the GPS or weaker wifi , sdcard mounting issues and other things that seem to be normal complaints over Froyo...

Update from my front with some findings. I have two Epics both on stock gingerbread right now. One gets aprox 12 hours on charge, the other gets 6. Took both up to full charge, and turned off wifi, left GPS on. Got 14 hours on both phones before they hit the red. This is a huge change for my wife's phone (her's is the 6 hour phone). This was done via only changing the following:

1) Reset the radios after restart: (Airplane mode on, wait 5 seconds, airplane mode off)
2) Stop the DRM Services (Settings->Applications->Running Services->DRM Services STOP)
3) Uninstall AirMail (not needed anymore)

I know I can get a lot longer on wifi, I'll probably test that later. This isn't nearly as long as I can get out of my Nexus One or my iPhone 4, but it is a fair improvement.
