Unofficial Official Battery Thread (EI22)

I forgot and left my wifi on all day and the battery didn't deplete much at all. That's weird. There is no wifi here. Yesterday it was 45% when I walked to the car after work having wifi off.

My battery life has been amazing since the update. It has been 35 hours since I last charged my phone and it still reports 47% battery life remaining. I'll admit that I'm not a very active user(make a few phone calls, send a few text messages, browse the internet a little, check e-mail, etc.), but I was lucky if my battery wasn't dead or almost dead within 24 hours with the same routine on Froyo. I figured I would do a clean install when Gingerbread was released, but everything has been so smooth for me that it doesn't seem like it's worth it.

Do you have wifi sleep set for something other than "never"?
(Settings->Wireless->Wi-FI->Menu->Advanced->Wi-FI Sleep policy)

Had something weird happen today. Battery life overall has been pretty good. Today when my battery got down to 20%, my phone shut off. Turned the phone back on, battery went down to 18% and then shut off again. Running stock rooted, anyone else experience this?

It's 'never'.

It's tough to nail down, isn't it? Some days it seems like it is going strong. Some days it sucks down 50% by lunch. I assumed it was because I was invoking some app that refused to go back to sleep for the rest of the day. I had some OS monitor app but I could never figure out what it was that might be active in the background.

I thought it was yahoo mail. I didn't load that one again after the last factory wipe. I just added it to the email app. Works fine.

I have gotten alot better at closing down apps. I put the program monitor widget on my home screen and have gotten into the habit of backing out of apps rather than just hitting the home screen button.

Again I say: You have to do more than back out or close down apps. Apps that you sign into or log into have to be signed out of!!! For instance these are some I have found that will drain your battery whether it shows as running or not: Facebook, Amazon MP3, Feeds & Updates, Google Lattitude, Qik, etc...basically any app that requires you to log in (logging into to websites thru browsers apparently don't have the same effect).

Well, one thing that is different is that I didn't download the newer facebook app. I also haven't logged into Qik since the last factory wipe. I don't use the yahoo mail app any more. It was pretty, but not worth the overhead.

As far as backing out, don't discount the huge difference that it can make. Before I had the program manager widget, I may have had 4 or 5 apps running all the time. I'd just hit the home button and go on with my life. Now, I seldom leave a single app running. Of course there are services running that eat up battery, but GB seems to handle them better.

I really wish my Epic 4G was my primary phone, just to see if the EI22 update fixed my horrible battery issues. I can't say for certain since I no longer have cell service. So, keep in mind that my stats reflect the distinct absence of any cell standby services.

I left my phone uncharged from when I went to bed and checked when I left for work this morning. Attached are the screenshots of the battery discharge. Went from 100% to 97% in this time. I think that's pretty good idle for the time left unplugged.

Would love to see some shots of "real" usage. This will give everyone an idea of what is using the system and how much of that time actually is "screen on" time.

BTW, the phone is rooted with ACS Recovery and has ACS ICS v2 installed.

While this isn't exactly real usage, I'd say this is quite interesting. A real record for my sake. I flashed my Epic back to stock EC05 and then updated to Gingerbread this past Saturday as my sister in law is going to buy my Epic. It's completely stock as you'd get it from the Sprint store. There are a few calls I've made and received, and the same can be said of texts. Wifi has remained on the entire time. It's not connected when I'm at work, just when I'm at home. Also, don't think it ever hit 100% charge before I pulled it off the charger days ago, but low usage or not, this is a record in my personal book!

Please note I had to use my GS2 camera as the Epic isn't rooted. I couldn't use a dedicated screenshot app.

Yep! You DO need to back out to shut down the app, just remember to log out too.

What battery app monitoring system are you using?

There is a battery manager in Android by default. Go to Settings>About Phone>Battery Use and you'll be there. If you tap on the graph at the very top, you'll get a more detailed description on what's going on with your phone.
