I used the unrevoked3 method to root my phone. I never installed a custom rom as all I need is free tethering. My question is do I need to unroot my evo to install the froyo update and if I do how do I do so. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same EXACT question here, can someone post a real response considering recent events (htc posting of froyo built, it having already been rooted, etc.)

The whole goal of having full root is so you can flash custom roms and have stuff like wifi tether for free! If you flash OTA, then you screw that up.

If you already have root, you should know that you never never never flash the OTA's, as you will lose root and it's quite possible the stock updates could eventually get so locked down that it will either take forever to find a new root method or you could be SOL.

Ok..... on that note, xda already has the stock with root update rom's available.....this means you don't lose root and still have your update....problem solved.

If you don't know how to flash a rom, I suggest you look around on here for the answer.

If you follow unrevoked on twitter they posted that you will lose root if you update. If all you need is wifi tether you should skip OTA and wait for unrevoked to update for the new OTA.

you do not need to unroot to install it. I did it and updated fine.
Still shows superuser on the phone though and wireless tethering and clockwork and all that tho.
I tried wireless tethering and wont connect, so I assume it broke the root as it should and just left the software traces on there. I look in superuser and no longer has wireless tether as accepted

PM, were you able to get the tethering working again? I currently have my phone rooted through Unrevoked3, would you happen to have thread you can point me to on the un-rooting process for Unrevoked3. I live off the wireless and would hate to lose it after the OTA.

Thanks in ADV

I have a question.. If your evo is rooted with Unrevoked 3.. and you accept the OTA update tomorrow for froyo, thus breaking your root. Is your phone now basically considered stock? At this point, can you start from STEP 1 of a full rooting method when one becomes available for this new version? Or is the phone going to be in some weird limbo state that would require additional steps to rooting it using a different root method than unrevoked?

My Unrevoked3 EVO with the Unrevoked OTA applied errors out with the triangle with ! when installing the 2.2 OTA. :o

It looks like the leaked manual .3 version would install for people who had rooted with Unrevoked3 and they lost root.

It looks like the OTA .6 version will fail during install on any rooted devices and brings up a yellow triangle. Unrevoked3 or other methods.

Can anyone confirm my observations from reading all the current threads?

im having the updating issue (triangle midway through update), im using unrevoked 3, im no longer interested in rooting, i have a mac, so im not sure how to go back to stock.

any help please?

Same issue here.

Using unrevoked 3 and I get 30% into the process and get the Triangle of sadness.

Waited well over 20min to see if it would progress, but it didn't.

Does anyone know how to undo unrevoked 3 or if it is even possible?

Has anyone done a factory reset to see if that will fix the issue?

Same Issue. Done factory Reset... tried to install froyo.. Same issue

Ive been asking this everywhere and searched on a bunch of forums, everyone is like "oh here it is" and then they link to a windows method. So frustrating.

Someone please help.

I did a full root install using Unrevoked for mac, works great on 2.1, I have not yet update to Froyo and will likely do this when Unrevoked has update their software. The difference is that you will need to install the .dmg file on to your mac and then usb connect to do the install. Again this worked perfectly on the previous 2.1 ota, looking forward to Froyo, but only when Unrevoked is ready.

OTA 2.2 is not working for unrevoked3. Triangle of sadness lol I keep getting it too. No froyo for me until unrevoked does something. I am not going to wipe my phone and start over. I will give them a few days or weeks. I checked XDA and this seems to be a problem with all the phones with unrevoked3
