Unroot or wait?

I rooted my Thunderbolt about a week ago, and I must say that I like it, however, Gingerbread is going to be coming out soon for the Thunderbolt and I was wondering if I should unroot and wait for the software update, or if there are already ROMs out there that have Gingerbread. I was looking at Cyanogenmod and that looks like a really cool firmware, but it's not out for the Thunderbolt. Also, if I do decide to unroot and wait for the software update, am I going to be able to root again?

I would say wait. Once their is an official release, there will be a file available from some dev that you can flash and maintain root access. If you unroot and use the official update, there isn't any guarantee that you will be able to root it.

I put all the bloatware in a folder on my sdcard, however, I want some of the things I put in there back on my phone - and putting it back in the app folder just doesn't do the trick. How do I go about reapplying the software I took out?

You use the NANDROID backup that you made right after you rooted and before you started moving stuff.

I'm waiting for the release before I start rooting and modding it. The GB release along with Sense 2.1 (hopefully) should be out within a month or so.

After that, the mods will get a hold of it anyway and then I'll root and load ROMs/kernels.

You can do that if you would like but keep in mind that the TBolt is root-able right now. If you wait till the GB release, who knows if or when there will be a way to root it.

Normally if you are rooted and don't want to install the official build and lose root access, there will be a build floating around somewhere that same day where you can manually flash and maintain root.

To each their own but if you are planning on rooting, keep those 2 things in mind.

I mean, how long has there been a Gingerbread ROM available for the DInc, like 4 months? Not sensed and not from Verizon, but available none the less...

They said it was really hard, tho, and there's all kinds of articles around abt how this is the most locked down htc phone to date.

And they had already rooted a production model so that might have shortened the amount of time and trouble they had with it on release day.

I would assume that it will be rooted but there isn't any guarantee. If people want to unroot for the official update they can but I'm not taking the risk of losing root.

Do you know if they can unroot? I thought it was permanent.

If you update using the official update that is pushed to your device, it will break root (meaning lose root access). In order to root afterwards, a dev would have to find another way to gain root access. If they are able to, who know how long it would take.

I think you are severely overestimating Verizon and HTC in this regard. Granted they said it was the "most difficult to root" HTC device, and yet it still took them all of one or two days. I would imagine that HTC is giving this a courtesy lockdown and not really trying very hard. Now, if it were a moto then I'd be worried.

If you want to take the risk, by all means. I'm just saying that I won't be. From my experience with android (1 and a half years, including droid, droid incredible and now this) each update makes rooting harder, especially in the beginning.
