Up versus Awake Time problem

I updated my phone OTA on Monday. Everything was going fine until today. My battery was dropping at a super fast rate. So I checked my phone and the Up time just about equals the Awake time! I have not added any new apps or changed any settings. Why all of a sudden is my phone constantly running like this?!?!

You're going to have to find the app which is causing that and get rid of it.

IM clients are a common cause.

After messing around with some of my settings one at a time I think it is the Wi-Fi that is causing all the drain. But why all of sudden? I have not changed a thing and it is starting to act up. I always had the Wi-Fi set to on and now it is causing the phone to constantly be awake? Is there any explanation for this?

Logan I just read your post. I am not complaining about the battery life. For two months it has been fine, only needing to be recharged overnight. But today when I got to work the up time was 1 hour and 54 minutes and the awake time was 1 hour and 53 minutes. I woke up, turned the phone on, put it in my pocket then checked it when I got to work.

Oh I see.

Do you have the wifi widget on one of your home screens? This helps a lot because you turn wifi on and off really fast with one touch. Don't keep the wifi or GPS on when you aren't using them.

And again, make sure you hit menu and close an app depending on what it is or hit the back button. Don't hit the home button.

When you go to your battery status view what does it show draining your battery the most? And again it could be an app and it not even be showing that there.

What's a list of commonly used apps? Do you have weatherbug? If you have weatherbug you need to click it to come on when 2.2 starts up. Even though it automatically comes on it doesn't seem to come on all the way for some reason and it just keeps trying over and over unless you manually open it and then close it.

I almost 100% sure it was the Wi-Fi killing my battery. Which is strange because I started using it to SAVE my battery. I had Wi-Fi set to on and the sleep policy to NEVER. But like I said two days after having the update and changing ZERO settings it has become a problem.

My battery screen reads:
Android System 30%
Cell Standby 28%
Phone Idle 23%
Wi-fi 10%
Display 9%

But this is because I restarted the phone after a battery pull and turned off Wi-Fi about 1 hour ago. Usually Wi-Fi is the highest because I had it running all day. BUT it was not keeping my phone in awake mode all day.

As for apps I have downloaded:
My Tracks
Shopper
G4
Yahoo Mail
Battery Widget
1337pwn
Documents to Go

And none of them were used today, besides the battery widget. I did nothing out of the usual. Check my fantasy baseball and email on the train. I guess I can't keep Wi-Fi on all the time anymore, which sucks because I read on here that it uses less battery than the 3G.

To find out what is causing your phone to not sleep, you need to download "Spare Parts" from the market. In that program, go to the Battery History menu, select "Partial Wake Usage" from the top menu and "since boot" for the bottom. The top value is the program that is keeping the phone awake.

Wifi will not keep the phone from sleeping unless you have futzed with the wifi sleep policy.

This is definitely an app, and most likely one that is not fully compatible with froyo. Don't know what it is, but My Tracks sounds like something that runs all the time... but Spare Parts will tell you if that is the culprit.

Whether "froyo sucks more battery" than 2.1 is completely irrelevant to this problem (and since I get better battery life, I'd say its also subjective at best, false at worst).

Lurker...I have the EVO and have the exact same issue going on. I saw your list of apps and the only one we share is the Documents to Go app...not sure why that would keep phones from sleeping but I am gonna research.

It's pretty easy to just uninstall and reinstall one app at a time and check up/awake time after each. Just make sure you do it while disconnected from a pc as the USB connected to computer always keeps its awake, irregardless of setting.

Also, go back through all your basic core settings as the update toggles a lot of them around to a new 'default'.
