Update 5.9.901?

Re: Update 5.9.901???

I'd like to get this update on my non-rooted Bionic as well. How do i go about it?

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Download it, put it on your sdcard, boot into stock recovery, and flash it.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Errrr, I'm guessing that's a typo. There is no 5.9.893. The official OTA is 5.5.893. If you have that, and are forever rooted, make a nandroid backup and have at the 5.9.901 update if you wish to install it. That should keep root and give you the new kernel, system, and radio. And hey, MORE APPS! :D

Oops yeah that's a typo. If I choose not to download the file to SD card, I can still wait for the OTA? That's the important thing for me.

Oh yea, definitely. No need to manually update if you want to wait for the OTA.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Mine is on 5.5.886.XT875. I have tried checking for the update that verizon told me was available. But when I check for updates, I get a message that says "Check for updates unavailable. Try again later". I've been trying for a week. Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Update 5.9.901???

will this work if you have 5.8.894 installed?

Not a chance. Any of the leaked updates need to either have a full update that allows installation over the top of the leaked update or a patch update made specifically for the leaked version. The update in this thread is made specifically to update 5.5.893. It won't even install on stock 886. So, start praying like the rest of us. :D

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Can I sbf back to factory and then get back on the upgrade path even if i installed a leaked version from cheesecake?

No. See my previous responses about leaked updates.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Man the new radio on this .901 update is great. Night and day so far between this and .893.
Signal strength and 4g/3g switching is much improved.
Worth the big jump in version number on the radio.

:'( So jealous!

Re: Update 5.9.901???

I tried seeing if the update is available for me to download and I get a message that "check for updates is not available at this time". Does this mean that the server is too busy with other people downloading or is there some other issue? (I have 893 installed on a non rooted Bionic).

Normally I get that message if I have no data connection when checking for the updates.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

sorry if this is the wrong place to put this but i see a lot of people saying this over and over again moto and vzw did sell a phone that needed a lot more work before it was sold.. is there anything we (bionic owners) can do if we get some kind of lawyer involved? i mean think about it... how many months has it been that some of us have been stuck with a phone that has so many problems? is it really fair that we all paid so much for an unreliable phone? me personally ive had to call 911 twice and the phone randomly resets. any ideas?

My wife had a similar problem with her fascinate. We had to have the phone replaced. It was stuck and wouldn't accept any updates.

Think about cost. How much will you spend in lawyer fees for something that may not pan out and how much would you spend retail on a new phone? Especially if you sell this one.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

I've already determined I'm not going the shady route. :) If it comes down to it, I will buy myself a new phone. I did this to myself, and this is the consequence of my actions. I don't fault VZW or hold them responsible. And I'm not going to file a false warranty claim for "accidental" damage. I don't begrudge others that take that action, but, for me personally, it's not something I can do. That being said, I'd love to get back on the upgrade path somehow. Your first idea won't work. I did a lot of work last night and the issue is that the kernel is the same as 5.5.893, but, the boot image isn't. And it detects that. So, until we can get a boot image that'll update the 5.7.893 boot image, we are in fact screwed. If there's no fix for this by February, I'll suck it up and buy a new phone. One without a locked bootloader.

Sooner or later a full RUU will leak for the official release and you will be back to stock. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

While I applaud your morality, VZW DID THIS TO US.

They have largely failed to support/failed to force MOTO to support a seriously flawed handset leaving us little other avenue than to try to find ways to support ourselves.

You ethics are fine, too bad VZW and Moto don't share them.

Good Luck to all of us stuck off the beaten pathway.

The phone is what three months old nad we have had 2 OTA updates already? It takes time for them to get them tested and out, I realize people are impatient but you knew what you were doing installing a leak.

Well, if that happens in the next 2 months, awesome. :) Cause if I'm not back on the upgrade path with this phone by my birthday in February, I'm switching phones. I'll consider it one of life's "expensive lessons learned" about screwing with phones that are locked. See, people don't quite get where I'm coming from exactly. OG Droid....google experience device, unlocked. Xoom...google experience device, unlockable. I'm spoiled, darnit! And I want to remain that way. Now that I've been educated on how the game with locked devices is REALLY played, I could almost live with it if I could get back on the upgrade path. I'd likely behave myself from here on out. You just have to know the rules. No matter what you do, keep the kernel/radio on the OTA path. And ALWAYS make a nandroid backup after every OTA update. If you follow those rules, you can play and not break things.

Anyway, 2 months. I figure that's enough time to get back on track. If not after that amount of time, loss cutting time. :)

Re: Update 5.9.901???

How do we know if we are on the update path? I recently flashed back to stock that gave me forever root because I deleted bloatware and couldn't install the last OTA. I did not ever download any leaked updates. Am I still able to get this OTA?

this is an OTA patch file not a full RUU so while there are no grantees, odds are high that this is an official update, and even if for some reason it is pulled ale later replaced like happened to the Droid Incredible about a month ago eventually an update will be made available to get you back to the newest official release.
