I made my feeling on how I feel about this on the article in the comments. It's bull ****

Anyway, thanks for clarifying I guess I'm going to the (grr) carrier version, in my case T-Mobile version and return the unlocked model. We always knew the unlocked models are not getting fast updates but after this clarification, have zero interest in them.

Couldn't you get the carrier version and then just have it unlocked? Yea there's blote but at least it's unlocked.

If you only care about sim unlock then yes. Personally, I'm not that interested about sim unlock, sure nice to have. But for me the appeal is cleaner firmware as intended by the OEM of that phone and faster updates. But in Samsung and LGs that's not the case. May be it's south Korean OEM culture, don't know what but those two unlocked/non carrier version still wait for carrier blessing for releasing updates to phones bought directly from them and nothing to do with carrier.

I've flashed the unlock rom on my s8+ from tmobile but your still locked to tmobile sim which I unlocked already so now compatible on any network + unlocked rom
