From Verizon's point of view, there's no reason TO give us 2.2, let alone anything afterward. We already bought the phone and locked ourselves into a 2 year contract. Aside from the sporadic GPS issues, which could be solved in another maintenance update, the phone operates as advertised. Verizon never agreed to continually upgrade the OS on the phone, so there's nothing holding them to doing so.
The only incentive they have to keep the phone's OS current is to make it attractive for *new* buyers, but with how often new Android phones are released, it's only a matter of time before they're better served by promoting a newer model as opposed to supporting an old one... for free.
Just trying to keep things in perspective. Verizon is in business to make money, and working for free to upgrade the OS of an older model phone doesn't make them any money. At the moment, our phones are still shiny and new, but the reality is that in a few months, they won't be.
