Update coming... but not 2.2?

There is no reason for the Fascinate to not receive 2.2 or 2.3 if other handsets get it. It is just as capable if not more capable than any other android phone available right now. This is a VZW problem. If they are still having similar update issues when my contract is near it's end, I will be letting them know that it's the reason they're loosing a customer.

Maybe they're going to surprise us and skip 2.2 and give us Gingerbread!

I hear that world peace is going to happen soon, also!

From Verizon's point of view, there's no reason TO give us 2.2, let alone anything afterward. We already bought the phone and locked ourselves into a 2 year contract. Aside from the sporadic GPS issues, which could be solved in another maintenance update, the phone operates as advertised. Verizon never agreed to continually upgrade the OS on the phone, so there's nothing holding them to doing so.

The only incentive they have to keep the phone's OS current is to make it attractive for *new* buyers, but with how often new Android phones are released, it's only a matter of time before they're better served by promoting a newer model as opposed to supporting an old one... for free.

Just trying to keep things in perspective. Verizon is in business to make money, and working for free to upgrade the OS of an older model phone doesn't make them any money. At the moment, our phones are still shiny and new, but the reality is that in a few months, they won't be.

Not entirely true. Verizon never initially promised anything, yes. But since it's release Verizon has stated numerous times that it will be receiving a FroYo update. When? Well that's the mystery, but Verizon has put themselves out there at this point in stating AFTER the phones release that it will be receiving a FroYo update.

At that point, it is in their best interest to follow up on their word.

That's exactly how I feel.

Surely you haven't had a calendar appointment go missing from your phone only to figure it out when your boss wants to know why you're an hour and a half late for a meeting. "but sir your meeting invite didn't have a reminder set so it was invisible on my phone" doesn't quite cut it. Not when a penchant for punctuality has been cultivated by blackberry addiction...

Exactly, and that's because the phone is still new, so they want to keep selling them. I have no doubt we'll get 2.2 at some point, but I guarantee Verizon will never comment on or commit to anything beyond that.

I think since this isn't an exclusive phone for Verizon they aren't going to rush out and give us froyo. They need to Bing it up and make it slower. I doubt we'll see gingerbread from Verizon.

Try it tomorrow morning from a different location, fingers crossed the cold lock will be just as good

I would like Froyo too, however, I would like the fixes first. I rather see a polished, bug free Froyo with all the goodie fixes than a rushed out Droid X kinda Froyo just to say we have it. I understand the frustration, but coming from Froyo on the X and how buggy it was and laggy, its just not woth it.

It sounds like they are trying to keep it between veterans because it's still very rough around the edges as far as installing/upgrading. Apparently it needs to be applied via Odin, and hence it wipes all phone data.

I gathered that from reading through the posts as well, which is ok because I'd probably brick my phone. It sounds like it's going to be a good update though that will fix many of our gripes. Something to look forward to anyways.
