Update for Sideloding: Anyone got it yet?

Funny, my gf just tried it and it doesn't work yet for her. The install of the Amazon app store was still blocked. I guess the update may still be rolling out.

btw: we tried 'update software', but no updates available.

doesn't work on my wife's phone yet either

It's now the 24th and I have not yet received this update. I'm a patient kind of guy, but I just wondered if anyone else was still waiting.

i gave up on it and just rooted and went with cognition on my wife's phone. lol

Working for me (stock AT&T Captivate). Installed Amazon App store, no problem. No visible change to the phone, version or menus.

It's now the 27th, still no update. I wonder how long the rollout is intended to take? If We're still within that window, so be it, but if not, further inquiries may be in order.

okay I have been trying to get the update from at&t for a few days now and they finally sent it to me in a text message.. problem is i cant click the link to download it because it says authentication failed when i try... does anybody know what i can do about this or am i just totally screwed? btw my captivate has 2.2 and is not rooted

the unknown sources is not the same on the captivate as it is on other Galaxy S phones.
you have to actually go in and edit the settings.db file. real big pain in the petusky I tell ya.

I just ditched att for verison, They gave me a better android, less hassle, less intrusion, less
changes to my account without my permission (3 times they changed me to a 2gb data plan)
Captivate is a decent phone, but mine would not accept roms without flashing to odin, then
froyo kies update, then clockwork mod.

I was able to do the sideload wonder machine very easily, it works, but it is hokey.

It's now the 31st, and I still haven't received the update. And today is Plants vs Zombies day :( . I know I said I was patient, but I have my limits...

I understand that. I have the amazon app store app downloaded and ready to install, and I check every once and awhile. I've still not received the "setting change" or whatever you want to call it.

And I just mentioned P vs Z trying to be funny. I don't really get it either.

I got my update yesterday by logging into the ATT website and starting a chat session with support. Discussed the issue with a nice guy and he had my phone updated in about 10 minutes. I had to reboot to get the sideload to work but that was it. I got a text message and after the reboot a message twice that the phone was checking with the Device Management Server. Then, voila, Amazon Apps I had been downloading installed without a problem.

I would try the chat session if you do not have the update yet.

I guess that rooted devices do not get this so called "update"? Not that it matters..but wondering if ATT has tried to "hack" my phone

I got on at&t's website and did the same thing but for some reason I didn't have as much luck as most everyone else. for some reason i can't seem to get the update when i got the message it kept telling me authentication failed.. have any ideas of why i can't get it to work? maybe its my phone but its killing me to not get this working.

Like some early posts, I am now able to install the Amazon App store and install app from it. I got no notification and there is not a new menu option. Whatever changed happed completely silently. Some sort of indication of a change would have be nice...

I tried to contact At&t today and was told the captiviate has no market change. I was told to contact android because they have no control over this issue. Lmao. sheesh!

Is not an update you'll receive...in fact you won't even notice it until you go in and download amazon app store to your phone. I tried it on Saturday and was able to download the app store. I also downloaded another 3rd party app with no problem.

I still don't have side loading yet.. i got on chat with att and watched them start pushing the update to my phone and then my device manager crashed and killed it so the lady pushed it again and the push part worked but then when i had to install from the configuration message i pressed and it told me authentication failed. could it be my version of 2.2 froyo.UCJI6 ?

i don't wait for ATT to do anything.

I just installed some app that lets me sideload. It was less than $2 Well worth it IMO. You install it, give it root access, and once again you are done with ATT's BS.

It's called like "Non-market Apss Enabler" or something. I'd rather just pay the money and just be done with it. If you're contacting ATT customer service, (especially more than once) why bother wasting so much time and effort?
