The latest from the Moto corporate forum regarding the update:

In spite of the announcement by ATT, that the update has been released, Motorola has NOT released the update, yet. And there is no word from Moto as to when it will be released. There have been a series of posts from the designated forum "Experts".

Here is one of them, from eagle328, quoted in its entirety:

"New software update: 4.1.75 and 4.1.83
No update has been released yet. The forum manager Mark will announce when an update is released. Please listen to the community for information of its release. I do not know when it will happen, but I hope soon."

In other posts by the designated forum "Experts", there have been suggestions that the release which others have made available, elsewhere, may not, in fact, be the final release.

So, everyone should stop wasting their time checking for the OTA release, because there is no such thing, as yet. ATT can say what it wants, but until Motorola actually releases the final update package, it's all speculation.

his information is true according to the "xpert" member of motorola forum. they state there is no official released but at&t states the release is out.

there is no right or wrong answer. its a mere miscommunication.

It shouldnt be long until the update is released to the public. Anxiously waiting myself.

Moto's website does not have the 4.1.83 release listed but ATT's does. Gotta love it when a plan comes together.

So, does that mean the update I got from moto isn't the final and they'll be releasing another one? And yes its 4.1.83 with android 2.2.2.

From what I herd, The update wasnt released yet. When did you get that update? Was it OTA?

Well, I got my update via Motorola's software update here.

This was done at about 10am on April 29th 2011.

And yes, I'm still baffled by the conflicting news presented by Motorola (support forums) and AT&T respectively. So I cannot confirm if this is "the" update, but it has worked well for me since.

It solved my problem where listening to local music (not internet radio) would kill the data connection consistently.

Upload speeds has been about 1.2Mbps average instead of 0.3Mbps using speedtest's app, so take that as you will.

Took me about 1 hour (yes, 1 hour) to check/download the update, and about 40 minutes to perform the update.

Some info of my phone at its current state:

System version: Version.4.1.83.MB8600.ATT.en.US
Android version: 2.2.2
Build Number: OLFYR_U4_1.8.3
Baseband : N_01.77.15P
Webtop: OSHWT_U1_4.257.30

not sure about swype, it's version 2.6.46.11740 if that matters.
I'm using smartkeyboard pro, so I don't have elaborate experience with swype, unfortunately.

In terms of apps, honestly I didn't check every app yet. The stock music player still sounds the same to me too.

wow thats crazy. So that program actually updated you to the latest release? Somebody screwed something up lol

those that got it, applied for pre-release beta? i did and got accepted. i got my ota.

This is merely wild speculation on my part, but we'll soon see how accurate it is (or isn't):

The 1.83 update was all ready to go out, but then blabbermouth beta testers crowing online that the GingerBreak exploit works just fine on 1.83 caused Moto and/or ATT to pull it at the last minute in order to buy time to thwart the exploit. The proof will be if 1.83 (or whatever), once it is finally released, suddenly proves to be immune to GingerBreak.

Taking bets here....

absolutely consistent with the "it's our phone, you're just a paying guest" policies...

xda folks should get paid for doing moto's work.

kinda amazing the efforts moto is putting in to block a fraction of a percent of the users..

Yes, but I thought that the GingerBreak method was a flaw in the Android OS system. As in Google not Moto... Correct me if I'm wrong.

sorry I forgotten to mention this earlier. I'm NOT in the beta program.

I did read on other forums after I got my update, that some people tried the updater software and it came back with no updates. So it's few and far between.

I'll be sure to keep a lookout on the "official" release, to see what version numbers will be present, or differences.

I got mine the same way as mr. Lee did, through moto software updated. I got it the same night it was "released". And in also not part of any beta program or anything. It'll be interesting what happens when they rerelease I if it will be different or not.

Got my notifications text by looking for upgrades, downloaded it but postpone installation for now.
