Update Has Screwed Up 4G

I am having the same problem. Got the update on my original S3 and had the signal strength issue. I had other issues with my phone (screen burn) don't know how that happened. Anyways got a replacement phone, got the new update and I still have the same signal issue. So a new phone didn't help. I always got 4 bars out and about, except one area where the road dips. Now, I get it everywhere.

So I did everything Verizon and Samsung asked of me short of wiping my phone. I just won't do that.
I cleared out the cache, I soft booted the phone, I removed the battery for five minutes.
Then yesterday afternoon my phone started keeping its 4g signal better, not great, but better than it's been since the update.
Then, today, the signal seems to be fine. Granted, I haven't done much with the phone today, but every time I've checked, it's been on 4g when it's supposed to be.
I'm still expecting Verizon to send an ota fix asap.

Same here, used to have decent 4G signal at my house and now it bounces back and forth between 3G and no signal. MMS / group messages are delayed both sending and receiving. Hoping for a semi quick fix here. Wish I would have stayed away from this update.

UPDATE - I did a factory reset and problem is still there.

I did a factory resent as well and no change. I called and spoke with Verizon - they seemed to think that replacing my sim card will make the difference. Going to try that this weekend when I have time to get to a Verizon Store.

Worse case root then flash the vrbmb1 modem.

We have a S3 in my family and since Im the tech person in the house, I updated it and noticed the 4g issue also. Tried a few things listed, nothing seems to have helped. The phone is spending most of its time in 1X while my DNA is right next to it with 3 bars of 4g. It never had an issue with 4g before this. Hope they fix this soon. Battery life is brutal on this thing now as its having so much trouble with holding stable connection.

Hi all,

Anyone experience the S3 rebooting itself after sending and/or receiving text messages? Got a replacement phone yesterday b/c of faulty digitizer, and I'm not sure if the automatic reboots are related to the update or are related to the refurbished unit VZW sent me. Before, during, and after these events, I was unable to send/receive texts or calls with and without mobile data toggled and showing at least 2 bars of cell service.

Was having the same issue along with my 4g showing up along side my wifi signal. I removed the caller ID app that came with the update, restarted, & haven't had an issue since.

Just a word of warning. I never opened the app or opted in, but on the advice of another thread, I went to my online Verizon account to check and they had opted me in without my knowledge or consent. It's free now, but after the trial period they will automatically start charging you for the service unless you cancel the service. I would check to see if the same thing happened to your account.

I knew I shouldn't have updated it...I can care less about the multi window (screen is too small for it to be beneficial anyway) but updated it because of the supposed USB cable issue fix. Funny thing is, my laptop still does not recognize my phone when its plugged up and now no data haha.

This brings me back to the old Bionic days when update after update was pushed out because of no/slow data and it was never the same and never fixed. Great timing though now that the S4 is out and we have an option to upgrade/purchase essentially the same phone in a slightly different version. Hey, its like when the Bionic was released, bombed severely then the RAZR came out shortly afterwards.

Well played

I spoke with Verizon yesterday and a rep told me that they're aware of the issues and are waiting on Samsung to release a fix. I then got in touch with Samsung and they tried telling me that the update didn't exist. Be ready for a long wait.

Well, I'm going to explore some options and do some math. If I leave Verizon, I'll have a $270.00 ETF. If I switch to T-Mob, I have to buy my phone outright, but will save $30.00 a month which would eliminate the ETF loss after 9 months...If I sell my S3 for $150, that would drop it even faster. I'd still be stuck with the cost of the new phone, but, I wouldn't have an issues with the 4G out here. Sprint could put me in a new one for $200.00 and I was with them forever dealing with 3G, but at least I GOT 3G...My S3 goes 1X half the time now. Decisions, decisions...

I was thinking of doing the same exact thing, but last night I went ahead and flashed an old 4.0.4 stock ROM onto my phone and updated it up to the previous 4.1.2 version and now have no issues whatsoever. I then rooted and unlocked the phone to slap a custom ROM on there to suppress the OTA update prompt.

Funny thing is, I tried to stay honest and not root/unlock my device and keep it all stock but it's scenarios like this that leave me, and many others no choice but to unlock phones and ditch the carriers ROMs. Thank goodness for developers making these custom ROMs available for us, otherwise, we would be subjected to the limitations and untimely resolution of these carriers.

Anybody read if any of the other carries are having an issue with their 4g after the update? If not that may point to some of VZW's bloat being the problem. Just a thought.

My daughter and I experienced the same thing.

In regards to the atrocious battery life thats happened since the update, after disabling the multi window function I'm seeing much improvement. Almost preupdate battery life but not quite. I've been very disappointed with this all.

i also only get 3g but i cant even access my "split screen" now the little tab that was there is not there anymore so now i have no split screen and 3g verizon might be losing a customer
