Update to kitkat questions?

Ok so I've never updated my note 2 to kitkat since I'm rooted stock rom. I have superuser could I unroot and do the update? Will I lose any of my settings and text messages? If you could please help with this I'd appreciate it.

If you can un root then you can take the OTA. You shouldn't lose settings or anything

Will the ota come to the phone of I check software update? Any down falls to unrooting?
