Talking about all updates in general, why do the updates have to go through ATT? Can't HTC release the updates themselves to us?
The system updates, like the one enabling HSUPA and the upcoming Gingerbread update, come from HTC. This was a minor patch, but in hindsight probably would have been better handled by HTC.

So then why can't HTC release it? does it have to go through ATT first? After all HTC is the one who made the phone and are making all these updates.
Wrong, ATT has mandated all issues that have required updates (4G radios not fully active, Unknown Sources choice unavailable), so any update fixing those would have to go through ATT, and since this is a OTA update it has to go through ATT's network.
So then what about the Gingebread update coming out in a couple months. Will that be going through HTC or ATT?
