Ok. Basic problem is that I no longer have internet connectivity other than wifi. I have no cellular internet. I have downloaded the app "real signal" and it tells me that I am receiving EVDO and CDMA signals but I can't actually connect to the internet. I'm not entirely sure when I lost connectivity because I was using wifi most of the day.
I have tried the following:

every combination (I can think of) of toggling on and off wifi and mobile data settings

Restarting Phone (power on/off and removal of battery)

Hard Reset

Flashing back to 09 - unrooting - rerooting - flashing to 2.2 - flashing to 2.2 superclean

The only 'problem' that occurred during the initial flash was that I got caught in the boot loop and had to reflash.

I also had a problem with cell service after the initial flash and had to call #8899 to get cell service back...

Any ideas?

Did you use the stock DL09 Odin image that Cory has linked in his instructions when you reflashed back to DL09? It needs to be stock DL09 when you go to Froyo or else it has all kinds of messed up issues.

Yeah, I went back to stock DL09. I had a copy of the zip from when it first came out (I like to be thorough).

This is my first android phone so I'm not intricately familiar with rooting, but I've come over from WinMo so I'm used to things breaking, hacking, and flashing (sounds like a good nerd video-game... hack and flash... a mobile phone enthusiast's battle with technology... and maybe zombies?).

Maybe I just didn't use the correct magic phrase:
"Klaatu... verata... n... Necktie. Nectar. Nickel. Noodle."

go to your about phone, please tell us baseband version kernel and build number

I had my service completely turn off briefly after flashing to super clean .08, but a *22899 and reboot fixed it for me

Thanks all.

I ended up having to call Verizon Tech support this afternoon and they had me turn off the phone, take the battery out, ran a diagnostic and (I think) some sort of ip refresh type thing on their end and that fixed my problem.

So I am up and running on 2.2.
