Updated the OS, the phone doesn't work

[AC Question]

On an s6 edge plus an update notification poped up for an OS update, so I clicked it. It stopped middleway, and it said that the UI had unfortunately stopped.
Now only the edge panel works otherwise the screen is black. Can I just somehow save my stuff before resetting? Recovery mode also works.

If the screen works in Recovery, try first a Cache Partition wipe.
