Updating contact list on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 won't stop updating! What should I do?

"Updating contact list" on Samsung galaxy note 4 won't stop updating!

After doing an update today 8/11/15 I can not get my contact list to stop updating. It has been updating for hours. Nothing appears on the screen except the words "Updating contact list". I have tried turning my phone off and on. I tried clearing the cache and data. I tried starting my phone in safe mode and clearing the cache partition. Nothing has worked. In my text messages, the person's phone number appears instead of their name. Before the update, the name always appeared. I need help fixing this...PLEASE! My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Hello. Are you able to get to Settings - Accounts - Google, and Accounts - Samsung. See if there is a red temporary Sync error showing. Do you think they were all Google contacts, or some were Samsung Contacts. A lot of personal preferences like syncing options get reset to defaults on major updates, generally.
Is your Samsung account running, if you used one. It's easy to get your log in details back from the Samsung website.

I had similar issue when I first changed phones from S4 to the Note 4. Try going to Settings>Accounts >Google. Tap on account and see which boxes are checked for syncing. My problem was I had "Contacts" and "People details" checked to sync. I deselected "People Details" and sync completed. Go to top of screen and tap on 3 dots, then tap on sync and see what's syncing. Hope that helps.

i have the same problem and it is not fixed till now !!! , i can't add any new contact , i can't access to my contacts at all !!!!!!!1

Go to playstore and download contact+ app and sign in with your gmail account and try making a call, and check back on your contacts, everything will be fine. I just had my fixed, so I've even unistalled the app.

I did just what u said,, now I can see my contacts and make calls through the new contact+ app.but nothing is fixed in my phone contact itself...any advice
