I'm upgrade eligible in a couple of months and starting to look at what device I might get. Any opinions on the best UNLOCKABLE (preferred) or at least ROOTABLE Android devices Verizon is offering right now? Looking for subsidized low down payment on 2 yr contract purchase method.

Still very happy with my unlocked 1st gen Moto X and may hold on to it for a while if nothing significantly better is out there. I think the size is perfect and performance has not been an issue, but I do wish it had more memory. I'm not looking forward to a 5+ inch screen that I cant slide in my pocket or operate with one hand,

Thanks

There aren't any devices anymore that I am aware of below 5". The unlockable/rootable would make me lean towards the Nexus 6, but of course that device is pretty huge.

Go down to the Verizon store and try the Nexus 6 on for size. I thought at first it was too big but now seems normal. Everything else seems too small. I think all the Samsung phones are locked down pretty tight on Verizon. Don't know about the others.

you can buy the Samsung developer edition versions which come with an unlocked or unlockable bootloader

Even though it's been out a while, I wouldn't rule out the M8. It's still running like the top tier flagship phone it started as and you'll find many in the M8 sub-forum still recommend it over many newer phones. Plus from what I've been reading, rooting doesn't automatically void your warranty like other brands. You'll have to double check on being unlockable, but I think you should be able to.
