So I'm coming due for an upgrade to my phone as of August 1st....

Been reading, reading, and more reading reviews on the new Galaxy S3, the HTC Evo 4GLTE, and then I decided to check the Galaxy Nexus 4G.

couple questions are:

The 4G on the $149.99 Nexus (on Sprint's site, I know it's cheaper elsewhere) is the "new" LTE 4G that Sprint is deploying in the Network Vision plan isn't it?

Of the 3 phones..I know already that the Galaxy Nexus is a more Google branded phone than the Galaxy S3 and I'm curious as to what pros ; cons there are from Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Nexus....

And is the new HTC worthwhile to NOT get the Galaxy Nexus for ??

I mostly use my phone for phone-type stuff...texting, occasionally doing pictures, and now I've gotten into playing the little games like "Draw something" and "Words W/Friends"...
I also have Hulu+ accounts, and also PlayNow accounts...

What would be a good fit for someone like me? I like my Swype and enjoy sending pics of my kids, taking video and uploading to Fbook/Youtube...so where do I go?

To answer your questions,
Yes, the 4G that comes on the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is 4GLTE which is what Sprint is rolling out in the near future.

Some Pros/Cons of the GS3 vs the GNex: The Gnex gets faster updates and is more secure for future updates, is easier to hack and rom, has stock android and is thus directly supported by Google. The GS3 has a better processor (although with Project Butter on 4.1, this might not make much of a difference) and better specs in general, has a much better camera, a slightly larger display.

The EVO LTE is very similar to the GS3 spec-wise so the main differences come down to Sense vs Touchwiz (I think they are both awful, ugly, and bloaty but that's just my $0.02) and the body of the phone. The EVO LTE has a kickstand and a physical shutter button. Some say HTC makes better radios (Cell, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS) and there are complaints of weak radio signals from the GNex, but they are not universal.

Any of these phones sound like they would fit your needs so I'll just offer my opinion. I'm going to get a Galaxy Nexus come September because of Jelly Bean and my confidence in Google's continued support of the phone and the community's support of it afterwards. The camera doesn't bother me as I was happy with my 3.0mp camera on my last phone. But I would recommend trying each one out in store for a few minutes before your purchase. Sometimes a phone can sound great on paper but after spending some time with it, you might not like it.

I actually have the opportunity to get an upgrade in August, October, and November.

I'm thinking the Galaxy Nexus in August...try that on for size for a couple months, then get the SGS3 in Oct, let the wife have it...and then I'll just figure out what I want to do at that point...

I keep reading reviews about SGS3 owners having issue with the reception/cellular radio probs...so I'm not big on having that phone...

I used to get bad service but I made several changes in my data programming menu and it helped fix it some...

I typed this for a friend in another forum. I'll copy it below for your benefit...


All great phones, just personal preference. I typed up a list of differences. It might help you pick which phone has the features that you care most about.

• Sense, TouchWiz, or stock ICS? Personal preference, but I think most people would agree that TouchWiz is at the bottom of the list
• The GNex has the worse camera of the 3. Both the Evo camera and the GS3 camera are really good.
• The Evo has the best screen.
• The GNex should get Jelly Bean soon, the others will be waiting for an update for a while. (I'm betting the Evo gets JB before the GS3 because HTC tends to be faster with updates.)
• The GNex is a little cheaper. (More bang for your buck?)
• The GNex comes with 32GB of internal storage but no expandable storage. The GS3 comes in 16GB and 32GB and has expandable storage. The Evo comes with 16GB of internal storage and has expandable storage.
• The GS3 and GNex have removable batteries. The Evo's battery is non-removable.
• The GS3 has 2GB of RAM. Although I'm not sure it would make much of a real world difference. It would allow you to keep more app in memory. Maybe it would improve high-end gaming.
• The GNex has Google Wallet. The Evo will have Google Wallet whenever they get it working. The GS3 doesn't have Google Wallet.
• GNex has onscreen buttons. The Evo has capacitive buttons. The GS3 has capacitive buttons with a physcal home button and has a non-standard menu button instead of a multitasking button.
• The Evo is metal. The GS3 and GNex are plastic.
• The Evo has a kickstand.

I'm sure there are things that I forgot. Everyone feel free to add to the list.

My vote is for the Nexus. Here are a few examples of why:

The Galaxy Nexus hooks up to my iMac instantly. The Galaxy Nexus file program opens the second I plug the phone in, and closes immediately when I unplug it. And this a 2006 iMac running Snow Lep. No waiting around for the SD card to sync up. 32 Gigs is a load of ram. Personally, I was fine with 16 gig on my OG Epic. But it would always take a minute to scan the F'ing SD card, twice, when you turn it on, or add stuff to it.

The Galaxy Nexus has a curved screen. It is really cool. It's HD, how bad can it be? Not that bad. Sure the other phones have better screens, but this one can be turned down in brightness for good night viewing. My OG Epic 4G screen was always too bright in the dark.

The Galaxy Nexus has a much cooler name. And it is more sleek looking.

Plus, Apple HATES the Galaxy Nexus. What better reason is there to buy a Nexus?

ummm of course! That's an ICS feature, and the Galaxy nexus is all stock ICS none of that Touchwiz, sense, motoblur or anything else.
