Upgrade from Epic 4G to what??

GroveRite:

Am I reading your post correctly? ICS on a Sprint Epic 4G??? Please tell me more and/or direct me to the appropriate ICS threads...

In the meantime, I'm trying to get a find the time port all my stuff over to my 32Gb Class 4 SDHC card. I think all my classical iTunes music on iSyncr is creating file name issues so they are not properly copying over to my PC so I have to wipe the iTunes stuff and start over. The Sandisk 32Gb SDHC card was $19 at Amazon. Hope it's not a fake...

?? I'm not on the Epic CM Team. Just an old Samsung Moment dev who's a big follower of their work on my Epic.

Oops...my appologies Zeinzu!! Thank you as well for your contributions to our android community nontheless!

To get back on topic, the LG Optimus Note will be great for all the physical keyboard aficionados. Rumor is the phone is coming to Sprint, let's keep our fingers crossed! Wouldn't be surprised if they change the name though since Samsung is marketing the crap out of their Galaxy Note.

Wow. I think I found nerd heaven. ICS on the Epic 4G and the "how to" guides. Thanks for the links on this. I will wait for the last two formal updates from Sprint/Samsung before I try anything. I hope they get the overclock feature working soon. Also, it sounds like the Lock Screen isn't quite working yet if the last YouTube video is up to date. I really have to have both the standard Samsung lockscreen and the Smartapp lock screen application working for security.

In reference to the LG Optimus Note, it looks like it doesn't have a dedicated numbers row so it's on par with the Samsung Captivate Glide (AT&T). Besides, I think I've become a Samsung Fanboy...

By the way, the 32Gb Class 4 Micro SDHC card upgrade worked great. My Samsung Epic 4G is like a new phone. The most obvious improvement over the stock 16Gb Class 2 card is that it no longer takes a lifetime for the post power-on SD card scanning to complete before I have access to my SD card based apps. The phone overall is much snappier. I should have done this ages ago. This is by far the best $19 I've spent in a long time...

Good catch on lack of numbers row on the LG. Stupid design choice.

Yesterday I was playing around with an old HTC TouchPro 2. Phone was a POS but physically it was a 10. Best physical keyboard I ever used and it had a tilting display. Such a beautiful phone; too bad it didn't work.

No joke! I had the bad luck of owning a HTC TP2. I don't know if it was the OS or the phone but I never had a phone that was so crappy. EXCEPT for the keyboard. Pure heaven, especially with the tilting display. Quite possibly the best designed cellphone ever made. No joke. But unfortunately it was unusable because it was also probably the least functional smart phone ever made.

On to bigger and better news... Sounds like the Motorola Photon Q is just around the corner for Sprint with a bigger screen than the Epic 4G, with a dedicated number row on the physical keyboard and LTE capable. Fingers crossed...

The screen is the same size as the Epic.

The Nexus is old news, better to wait on the Galaxy SIII. At least that's what I'll do. They have 2 versions: a cheaper 16GB MSD and a more pricy 32GB model. Since I already have been using a 32GB micro SD card in my Epic, if and when I do upgrade, I'll get the cheaper one and put my own 32GB card in it.

If your Epic 4G is running GB or ICS without any issues, why spend all that money on a new one?

The Epic has had 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 4.0, and is gauranteed to soon see 4.1.

I see no reason to get rid of it yet.

Yes, let the eager folks go out and wring out all the initial problems with the new phones that are sure to arise first.

My Epic has been acting up a lot lately - calls going straight to vm, texts not arriving for hours, call quality very poor, and force closes and freezes, which I NEVER had before. I'm going to give the SIII a try and see if it improves things for me - I need the phone for my business and can't afford to deal with the spotty performance I've been seeing lately from my previously dependable Epic.

Are you trolling this thread? You realize the SGSIII does not have a physical keyboard which is the point of this discussion...

There is no such thing as a Epic 4G that is running without any issues. I don't believe it. And IMO, if you believe it then you are in denial!!!! I'm only half joking here...

No, it has not had 4.0 or is guaranteed to have 4.1. CM9 and an official 4.0 release are not the same thing. CM9 on the E4G is certainly not as good (stable, smooth, etc.) as an official ICS release.

I'll be the first to get a new Sprint qwerty phone the second it drops. Can't be any worse.

I also don't see any adequate sliders out there right now. i did flash the CM9 RC1 to my phone and it's been pretty cool. I actually liked clean GB, too.

CM9 has pacified my desire to upgrade for the moment. I have been reading some articles and Sprint's network essentially sucks and I am feeling it. I don't want to get roped into another 2 year wait before I can shop around and see what else is out there.

My son was dying for an iphone, and I talked him into an Epic 4g from ebay because he thought ICS was so cool on my phone. After I flash CM9 on his, I will likely go back to the latest and greatest Clean GB, root and wait out the end of my contract.

no, not trolling, but the Nexus always gets a mention, and I'm saying that if you are considering something like the Nexus, you might as well wait for the GSIII. but since you brought it up again, what IS another phone with keyboard equivalent of the Epic? I think there's one on Verizon (Stratosphere?). any news on a Sprint keyboard phone?

That is not true. CM9 is probably better than the official ICS. I have been running ICS since I found CM and never had any issues. It's the smoothest running rom I must say.
