Upgrade from Epic 4G to what??

no, not trolling, but the Nexus always gets a mention, and I'm saying that if you are considering something like the Nexus, you might as well wait for the GSIII. but since you brought it up again, what IS another phone with keyboard equivalent of the Epic? I think there's one on Verizon (Stratosphere?). any news on a Sprint keyboard phone?
The upcoming qwerty phones for Sprint are LG Cayenne (confirmed) and Motorola Photon Q (very solid rumors). I am hoping for the Photon because it has much better specs but both will ship with ICS.
That is not true. CM9 is probably better than the official ICS. I have been running ICS since I found CM and never had any issues. It's the smoothest running rom I must say.
There are at least as many people claiming that CM9 is loaded with bugs & shortcomings as there are claiming it's the greatest thing to grace the Epic. CM9 is not the direction I'm trying to go, though. I'm not looking for cutting edge. I'm looking for stability and if CleanGB isn't stable enough for my liking I seriously doubt CM9 will be.

Are you trolling this thread? You realize the SGSIII does not have a physical keyboard which is the point of this discussion...

There is no such thing as a Epic 4G that is running without any issues. I don't believe it. And IMO, if you believe it then you are in denial!!!! I'm only half joking here...

No, it has not had 4.0 or is guaranteed to have 4.1. CM9 and an official 4.0 release are not the same thing. CM9 on the E4G is certainly not as good (stable, smooth, etc.) as an official ICS release.

I'll be the first to get a new Sprint qwerty phone the second it drops. Can't be any worse.

I never said "official". I said it has them all, which it does. I have no issues on CM9. I never had issues on stock either. Guess I'm just doing something other people aren't. Then again, I did use to build my own roms.

Also, CM9 runs better on my Epic than my friends GS2 that just received an "official" OTA to ICS, so there goes that theory.

Seems like you're posting at this point just to have something to say because your opinions are the only correct ones for everyone else.

Ok. Let's all play nice. Let not start acting like apple fanboys willing to overpay(52% in an iPad survey!) For a closed ecosystem...

Z: If I decide to go CM9 RC1, how difficult would it be to go back to stock GB if it doesn't work out for me? This fc09 is still giving me fits. It's now messing up my endomondo/gps app. Nothing worse than finishing a long workout and finding out that you lost all the data... gps nav is all but unusable for anything longer than a few minutes in the cities. It's mainly the reboots and freezes. Almost makes me want to go back to froyo...

I refuse to give up my full keyboard and will be one of the last holdouts. Is anybody at samsung listening?

It's VERY easy to go back. Following the directions for restoring a bricked phone. Odin (with the PIT file!), and the stock tar. You'll be back up and running 100% clean and stock, within minutes. You may even find that some of the issues you're having with FC09 will go away after doing a full wipe if you find that CM9 isn't quite your cup of tea.

To return to stock odin the stock FC09.tar with pit file "and" re-partition checked. That part seems to be what everyone forgets to mention when instructing people how to return to stock from a MTD partition structure which is what CM9 runs on.

Oh no... Reading the spec sheet the Photon Q has an embedded battery. I assume that means you can't swap batteries when you're running low. They took the one thing I can't live without in the Epic (other than the keyboard) and took it away. It will be very hard for me to get by on one battery no matter how long they say it will last. I never leave the house without spare batteries in my pocket.

The other possible downgrade is the ColorBoost screen rather than AMOLED. I don't personally care, as long as it's legible in bright sunlight I can live with anything. But why oh why oh why did you take my beloved swappable battery away??? :( :'(

are there any other android smartphones that have an embedded battery? i thought that was an iphone thing.

Lots of Androids have embedded batteries. For example the Razr and Razr Max both do. Many other examples.

To add to that list is the Sprint Evo 4g LTE... and it looks like several others are doing away with replaceable batteries in favor of larger fixed batteries. :-/

I know I get a solid day (NEVER ran out) with the generic 3500mah battery. More efficient processors/screens and a 2000mah battery should last a solid day.

For what it's worth Zeinzu, when you put the pit file in the proper field, it automatically checks the "repartition" checkmark. Verified on odin 1.81

That's good to know. I don't ever end up needing to odin stock much.

My advice (and what I did): Ditch Sprint, get Galaxy Nexus from Google Play store and Straight Talk service for $45/month - no contract. Best Android experience to date.
