Upgrade Skyrocket S2 from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2

I am trying to update from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2, I know this is reviving a topic that has been beaten to death but does anyone have any new updates for this issue? I spent two days on the phone with AT&T trying numerous things including a factory reset and still no luck. They have concluded a fix needs to come from Google and there is no timetable. Update Firmware option does not appear using Kies and OTA Software Update through the phone returns "Communication Failed, the server is currently unavailable" every single time. I'm not savvy enough to do the update with Odin. Anybody come up with another fix or at least something new to try?

I still check this forum from time to time. 2 weeks ago I smashed my Note3 and had to dust off the good ole Skyrocket. Put my sim in and as soon as I turned it one I got an update message. After updating my play apps I ran the up date. Still on 4.1.2. The phone is a ltlle sluggish but still works well....

I wouldn't count on an official fix since the skyrocket is considered a legacy device. However, custom ROMs are available on XDA if you root and get custom recovery. I recently flashed Candy5 ROM which is based on CM12.1/ LP 5.1.1 and now my 4 year old skyrocket runs like new with no bloat.
