I was not eligible for an upgrade from my Evo 3D until June of 2013. At first I thought my only option to get the Evo 4G LTE was to purchase it at full retail price(which has been announced on Sprint at $549) Then I noticed while browsing through the Evo 4G LTE forums that some people called Sprint and requested to "Buy-Up" to the Evo 4G LTE so I called to inquire. Here is how it works. You have to call 888-273-9460 and inquire how much it would cost to buy up from your current contract. There is a certain amount you can choose to pay to be eligible to upgrade to a new phone. Since I still had a year, I had to pay $165 to be eligible to upgrade to the Evo 4G LTE on release date. Now instead of having to pay $549 I will be paying $199 + $165 = $364. I now have the choice to trade in my Evo 3D for $90 and pay even less or even sell it for more. Even without doing that I am saving $185 by "Buying Up" with Sprint. I don't know the qualifications but it doesn't hurt to try if you are interested in upgrading before your eligible date.

just buy from wirefly friends and family, only 119. save you another 80.

Wow! That was amazing! I spent over 3 hours today trying to get various Sprint people to give me the early upgrade, and none of them would. Called the number above and for $75.00 I will be upgrade eligible by 1pm tomorrow and then can pre-order. The nice lady at Sprint said that the phones were shipping out as they were arriving from HTC, so some people will be getting their phones sooner than the 18th. Very, very, very happy!:)

If you were going to the store trying to get a early upgrade, they cant do it at the store only customer care can.

Had my own interesting experience with the buy-up program. As usual the front line CSR could not help and sent to supervisor. They seemed a bit surprised I knew about the program and interested in where I heard about it. Was on hold several times and told that the buy up was not available to everyone only available in some markets and by invitation AND that my account was not eligible. One woman kept saying that just because it not eligible this month did not mean would not be eligible next month since the promotions change.

Eventually said the magic words that I could always just pay the early termination fee and go to at&t and they sent me to retentions. The supervisor I was talking to must have been there a while since she actually called it retentions, which I have not heard them say in a long time.

Took me two transfers and a couple long holds, but finally got to a person who could help. She was surprisingly honest saying the buy-up program is run by the marketing department and they have no idea how they are deciding who is eligible and it didn't make sense to her. She had to confirm with me about 5 times I wanted to do this and had to talk to her supervisor one more time, but got it done. $65 and I'm good to go - only took about an hour for my account to show I'm eligible for the upgrade

Seemed longer but I timed it, whole process took little less than an hour, which was okay since was just sitting waiting for somebody to show up for a meeting. Really helped that I knew what I was talking about and that I was very nice the whole time. Was easy to tell the reps really appreciated how nice and calm I was the whole time, I'm sure the don't get that real often.

One last thing having been with sprint a long time and had many ups and downs with customer service (remember Claire? Pakistani guys named Theodore?). Every rep I talked with was obviously a real american in America who spoke perfect english, was very pleasant and who actually knew what I was talking about when I discussed the buy up program, the Evo lte, retentions and so on and who didn't assume I was an idiot or suggest I just remove the battery!

I've had zero problems getting early upgrades the past two times I've tried, both were a couple months ahead of my actual upgrade date (one for the Hero and one for the Epic 4G). My Sprint store here always hooks me up. The 1st time I did it, I was in store and was having problems with my Blackberry when the woman offered me to just scrap it and upgrade early to the Hero. Second time, I had to call retentions and woman happily transferred me to a supervisor who called me back and told me my upgrade was pushed up for the Epic 4G.

Granted my 2 years expires in June, so it wouldn't be much of a problem, but I guess your mileage may vary.

Really torn between go ahead and getting the Evo 4G LTE or waiting to see how the S3 turns out (or if Sprint gets the Samsung Note).

This is great information. I called this number yesterday and got the early upgrade for $45 (my contract expires in October)! My account now shows I'm eligible for the upgrade and I'm headed to Best Buy to pre-order the Evo 4G LTE. Thanks guys for sharing! :)

Anybody done this in St. Louis area? Just curious because I saw a supposed list of eligible markets and we're not on it

Just tried this and they told me I wasn't eligible on any of the 4 lines on my account... How do they determine this?

Thanks, this worked like a charm! I wasn't eligible to upgrade until August 1st but for $45 will be able to get an EVO 4G LTE on Friday. I have high hopes for the phone, but with all the problems I have had with my Epic 4G I could deal with many problems and it would still be an improvement

The only way an account is eligible for an early upgrade is: the account cannot be brand new and had no upgrades. Accounts a year old or more can qualify for the upgrade but if an account has 3 or more lines, it wouldn't qualify. The reason for this is because a line that upgrades with discount, has to extend the contract and Sprint has had customers complain for there contract being extended from one line and the want out. Breaking a 2 line contract into separate contracts isn't bad but 4 lines is. It messes up the ETF for the contracts and breaking it up can be done but its alot of work.

Suppose line 1 wants to upgrade, extending the contract, and line 3 wants to cancel. That means you have to draw up a new contract for one line, break another by finding the fees for that particular line with ETF fees. And newly pricing for the last 2 lines and they might b*tch.

New monthly pricing for everyone and Sprint ain't happy with that.

I have 4 lines with a new line opened less than two months ago and they gave me no issues when i called. I am eligible for an upgrade in September 2013, December 2013 and now April 2014 on the other lines. Not sure where you got your information but I would not have been able to participate in the buy up if that were the case. I'm also in Los Angeles and I see on a different thread that someone posted where the program is available and L.A. was not on their list. My suggestion is keep trying. Don't let anyone who is misinformed, whether it's here or a Sprint CS rep tell you that its not possible. If I didn't get through the first time I would have tried and tried again until I got it. That's how I got the early upgrade to the Evo 3D. Persistence(and I pay my bill on time)

This sounds just like my situation... 4 lines last one added in October and the line I'm trying to upgrade is my wife's which is due this October... Was the line you upgraded yours or another? What number did you call and what did you say exactly?

I called the number from post#1

Sent from the dungeon I was thrown in for voicing my opinions

Spoke to a supervisor, he was honest and said to basically try next month cause this month I haven't been able to qualify, he was honest and said that the program runs off a script of qualifications he's not sure of, pretty much like someone said earlier in this thread about how its a marketing thing and not sure who and how you get targeted.

Sent from 3D, hope to be EVO LTE soon
