Final edit: tool was legitimate, flashed to 2.3.3, about to use the zerg rush root. Feel free to delete and/or close thread.

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.

I just got an Xperia Play to use exclusively for emulation. Problem is that it's a Verizon 2.3.2, and according to the rooting guide on this site, this version is not able to be rooted. Having said this, I'd like to update the version to 2.3.3. The problem comes in that I have not activated this phone, nor will I. Is there a way I can flash it to 2.3.3 if it has not yet been rooted (though the bootloader has been unlocked)?

Edit: after doing more research, it seems there's a tool called Flashtool that does precisely this. The link in the thread goes to a depreciated Github page though. I'd rather not download Github for Windows for a single download. Is this site legitimate? Flashtool | Xperia device flashing
