Upgrading phone only 8 months into contract

My girl wants to get the Droid X. She is 8 months into her contract. It started Dec 2009. She is eligible for NE2 in August 2011 and her contract ends in Dec 2011.

Is there any way for her to upgrade now without having to pay retail for the phone ($580!)?

If she is the primary line on the account (aka not a 9.99 line) and that primary line is 59.99 or more for single lines, 80 or more for family share lines, she should be eligible to upgrade in december for 2 year pricing without an issue.

If she insists she needs the phone now, you can either add a line and use the new phone upgrade to get her a device (really expensive) or you can sell her current phone on ebay and use what you make on that towards the cost of the x.

If she is a tech buff, I highly recommend she looks at signing 1 year contracts. This allows you to upgrade every 10 months for the low cost of an extra $70 up front for the phone
