Add a line to your plan (dumbphone) is the only other way of getting around it..
What's a dumb line cost? $35.00 a month? 35 X 24 = 840....Cheaper to but it outright for 699.

This situation discussed above all makes sense to me. My situation is a bit different.
I am up for an upgrade, hoping to get the S4 after work today. I have two lines on my plan, both of which are currently on unlimited plans. Is there any way to get around switching to the 2GB plan in my situation without paying retail on the phone?

Don't be fooled by their voodoo when telling you how much a 2GB plan is on a single smartphone. I pay $94.20 a month...WITH a 22% discount. Verizon sure is proud of their data. If I put on some NVG's, I could probably see it sparkle.
a dumbline is 9.99 plus tax. usually about 15 a month
What type of plan are you on? With 2 Smart phones on unlimited($30 each) and 3 dumbphones($10 plus tax each) I pay 213 after taxes thats with 5 lines. The discount you get is usually only on the first line and only on the Voice.. I do not recall if it covers data
If you used the upgrade on your wifes line in January, Your only choice is probably to lose the unlimited or to return the S4 and buy it at full price. (Or wait and use your wife's upgrade next time around.)
False, you can transfer his upgrade to his wifes line and use the upgrade on her line. It isn't "her upgrade" but it would take away the upgrade the OP has without killing his unlimited data. Please don't spread FUD and confuse the OP anymore than they already are and trying to get everything straightened out.

I was in store and on phone with Verizon today and was told if I transfer my upgrade I will lose my unlimited data plan.
Well if this can be done would sure like to know how. My line has unlimited and is eligible for and upgrade. I have 2 other lines on 2GB plans that are eligible in 08/13.

So any suggestions would be appreciated. I know I can upgrade at full price but, will wait for dev edition if I have to go that route.
I agree with that which is why I came here. If the answer is persistence I can do that. Is there any suggestion on how to transfer upgrade online/by phone to bypass vzw reps?

Thanks for the replies, I have gone back and read the other forums. Unfortunately still no luck with VZW transferring my upgrade. The line that is eligible is the one with unlimited. All reps on phone and in store tell me I will need to change data plans to upgrade even to transfer it.

ok, now I will wait and see. Completed the upgrade online using the 'Transfer Upgrade' option. With the long weekend will need to wait unti Tues/Wed to get phone and activate. As of right now my plan still shows unlimited data. They're lying to you. I did it the other day and kept my unlimited. You can do it from the website.
