UPS Reference Numbers

Does anybody who has ordered a physically shipped product from Google before happen to know how they figure out their reference numbers?

When pre-ordering from Apple you get an online order number, which Apple also uses as a Reference number for your item before they give you the tracking number. Going to UPS or FedEX and using the online order number as a reference number would often show which hub your Apple device is at before launch. Apple ships out iPhones/Pads/Pods a few days before launch - at which point the reference numbers work. They don't send out tracking information (usually) until a day or two after the actual shipment.

I tried all the numbers I could find on my Google order as a reference, but they didn't work. Just a thought.

Probably because the UPS Tracking number has not been produced yet. That is what shows up on the sticker with the barcode when it goes out the door. ANd then the barcode number gets put in the system when scanned by the distrobution center.

The reference number is not the same as a tracking number.

There are two optional fields on worldship (ups software) for reference numbers by the shipping company. It is just a way for the shipping company/receiving party to reference an order in their own database(s) in addition to UPS's. So the reference number most likely will not have anything to do with the actual ship date as it is most likely based off of the order not the shipment.

...I could always be wrong, definitely wouldn't be the first time.
