Urgent help with Google Voice needed please

it will get much easier and actually this problem is the default Google Voice that is installed on the phone is missing some options. If you update the app from the market it gives you the option to "skip" the integration part and use the old google voice settings. when you hit skip your phone doesn't get taken over by Google Voice.

During the updated Google Voice set up it will give you a *28XXXXXXXXXX number to dial to have your phone forward voicemail to goovgle voice and ONLY that.

Thank you for your patience and help with this today :) Much appreciated.

Does it get easier ? Lets say I get into flashing custom ROM's, will need to setup Google Voice each time fresh again, will it be the same pain in the ass, or much easier now that we did all this ?

It does. In the beginning watching YouTube videos always helped me.

Yeah your hit it right on the head, I felt like Google Voice was taking control over my phone, like a monster I couldn't stop.

Having to uninstall it, and then update/reinstall from scratch, and then skip that first setup, and dial some strange #. it is a very bizarre setup to be honest. On the EVO, Sprint had a stock visual voice mail app, that was simple as pie to get going.

And boy, do I still miss that visual voicemail. But it's really the only thing I miss.

I felt like you about GV taking over my phone. I just decided not to use it at all. But with an updated version available I might check it out. Or not. :D

Google Voice only does as much or as little as you tell it to.

A lot of people forget or don't even know about all the settings that are available through the web page. Once the person figures out the difference between the two types of integration options and gets their settings the way they like it online, then the service really is fantastic.

ok ive tried everything posted in this forum and I CAN NOT get my phone Samsung Galaxy Nexus to show my Sprint phone number when sending texts through handcent. I am unable to fully uninstall voice on the nexus (unless I am super dumb and missing something) Please help cause I too feel like this has taken over my phone. All help is appreciated.

****UPDATE**** Ok I figured it out. using the google voice website I just disabled integration with my sprint phone and now its better. I'm going to hold off on Google voice again until it is more my style.
