US Unlocked Mate 10 Pro Available February 18th

There are a bunch of problems. The overly aggressive battery optimization kills email and similar apps that need to run continuously, it kills notifications for smartwatch, etc., it kills the updating of widgets, and that is all after allowing those apps to run in the background without battery optimization. It is bad enough where it does not even let its own always on display work properly if the phone is not used regularly. The time does not keep up. If the phone is in a dark place (pocket, etc.) for very long, it is very hard to wake it up. The notifications are all messed up, with fonts that are so big that the information spills outside the notification. Again, it cannot be adjusted. You can change the dpi if you go into developer options, but it does not help the notification font. Also, the dpi resets to a default setting, as does the display brightness, every time the phone is rebooted. All of these issues make the phone unreliable and unusable. As I said, the hardware is among the best out there, but it does not matter if the software messes it all up. I am hopeful, but doubtful, that the US version will have updated software that fixes these issues. I know it will not be released by the carriers, but there is no way AT&T or Verizon would have allowed such buggy software to be released on their phones. If the problems are not addressed, I will have to return mine. I will also have to use another phone until the US versions are released and I can see what software is on them. I have to be able to rely on my phone.

Some of this really concerns me. I'm about to pull the trigger on the 10 Pro here in the UK and I've promised my wife I'll keep my next phone for at least a year (she's tired of me switching every 3-6 months) so it has to be reliable and not frustrate the life out of me. I never had any of those issues on my P10 that I switched to the Note 8 from. It had a few bugs that really annoyed me like Bluetooth had to be switched back on manually everytime the phone rebooted. If I used the phone as a Hotspot I couldn't use data on the phone itself at the same time. Apart from those it was great and I had zero issues getting notifications on my ZenWatch 2 etc.

I remember in the settings I selected certain apps to not take part of the aggressive battery management. It's been a while so I don't remember the exact settings.

You can go into settings and make everything appear to turn off battery optimization, but it just doesn't work. Battery life is pretty good, but at the cost of things not working right if you are not regularly using them.

I change the dpi settings to make everything more compact. As I said, it does not change the notification font size.

There are quite a few threads at XDA about these issues if you want to read more. It could be one of the best phones out there, but right now it is not. The good news is that all of these things could be fixed. The bad news is that people have been complaining about them since the phone was released and none of the updates help with them.

I've bought the Mate 10 instead of the Plus version several days ago and so far it has been superb. The camera is just so awesome! and the speed and overall performance is incredible! I'm sure the Plus version would be better...
I actually prefers wider screen of regular mate 10 but not available in the US, so still on fence.

I feel the opposite. I think $650 is a fair price and I wouldn't want to be locked into a carrier nor do I want their bloatware on my phone.

I have a carrier model but it is factory sim unlocked. True it has carrier bloat, but it's pretty minimum and it also debloats some Samsung bloat, but to each its own of course.

For me though a carrier model has a few advantages
-any issues with service and my carrier will take responsibility. Your unlocked phones, carriers are likely to blame the phone first, and I had this happen personally before even though the issue was not with the phone but with provisioning by the carrier
-warranty replacement - my carrier will provide warranty replacement overnight at no cost. Most manufacturers won't do this and some require you to send in your phone.
-insurance - carrier insurance is valid only on carrier phones

I realize that these issues aren't that important to some people but personally, I prioritize a working phone and cell service over having a phone that has carrier bloat. I mean I pay $35/mo for unlimited everything on the top rated carrier and I expect top rated service.

To each his own of course. I realize that some are very bothered by carrier phones and luckily there are plenty of unlocked phones to choose from
