Usage that damages battery?

I use the 0EM Samsung charging stand at night which charges it to 100% while sleeping. Am I reading the above correctly that this shortens battery life?

Absolutely. Limit charge to 72% and do small charges throughout the day as needed. 30-40% at a shot gives a lot of run time for my Note and is very Li friendly.
If it has the fast charging feature /25 watt charger, use it.
On the Note 10+ it gives a faster, cooler charge than slow boat charging. Counterintuitive but true.

More usage will result in more charge cycles which will result in the battery deteriorating quicker.

Best advice I can give you is don't let the battery die and don't leave it in a charger when it's at 100%. Avoid using it while plugged in if it's getting very hot as well.

Shame. The charger is nice for clock stand for sleeping.

If you a snap off back panel and can replace the battery easily not as much of problem.
That said a high capacity battery in good condition will give you over half a day of continuous use on a Note 10 @70% charge; the same battery degraded maybe only an hour.

Why needlessly shorten its life? Treated right you can literally get thousands of charge cycles and retain most of its storage capacity.

Overcharging/ battery saturation apps are the most destructive ones. Yeah you'll get an extra 1 or 2% but you'll tear up the battery fast for those extra few minutes of run time.

I'm surprised they would sell a charger designed for a nightstand like that knowing it degrades battery life.

Unfortunately there's no way short of rooting to stop a charge cycle at a user selected value:(
Knowledge is a b*tch, ain't it?

They make these devices for the sheep herd.
Be a ram... and lead a better life.

I used to just plug it in overnight and now it just sits on the wireless instead, besides that I just top up here and there and I have not had a batteri go bad on me yet.
I got my Note in the beginning of October and it still gives me 10 hours SoT and showing battery health of 102% (it's an Exynos by the way)
I don't give two pennies for all the "how to best charge"
bull crap to be honest

Lol..do what works best for you .

Yes, well... whatever makes one happy. Joy-joy, etc.
However you will note *giggle* that I have a disconcerting habit of being right.

Take a look at the break down for the Note 10+, it begins with a heat gun. The bat is buried deep in it and literally hot glued to the display. A lot to go wrong on disassembly.
Mind you I've done repairs on Canon Pro Cams... I wouldn't even attempt going into this Note!

Yeah I have few projects going myself

To left is my nexus 5x I put battery and charger port , need a mother board though

Middle my s8+ needs battery back glass

Far right my pixel 2xl needs battery and front glass.

Pretty cool.
How tedious was disassembly for these?
All screws, snap ons or glue too?
Nexus 5x all screws and pop off

The s8+ screws and heat gun get the glue soft , same with the pixel 2xl , for pixel 2xl no matter how careful i was and good heat i cracked the tip of the front screen

Cold will degrade performance but not harm a LI.
Heat and full charges will shorten its life many fold ie temp over 72F, charges over about 72%.

Remember when you charge from say 40% to say 70%, that's not considered a full charge cycle.
LI's wuv being charged/discharged like this; it prolongs their life. They have no memory like the older NiCads.
Store LI's with a full charge is a bad idea unless they'll be in storage for years. Storing them in a hot place with a full charge is the worst way to store them.
72% @ 35-50F is ideal. Charge can be lower as long as time doesn't drag it below it's minimum charged voltage ie storing for 2 months at a 35% charge minimizes the aging of the cells. They self discharge at around 2-3% @ month if I recall correctly.

Thank you for this information! I definitely don't know enough about smartphone batteries. I think that's done on purpose, so I don't stress about it too much!

Yeah, cracking the screen is a huge concern. Way too easy to do.
Sorry to hear that:(
Learn by doing, school of hard knocks teaches the best.
Very rewarding to do your own repairs.

>Watch the ESD, a wrist strap grounded to earth ground and a ESD matt is best practice.
Always be sure the humidity is above 60%, have some water boiling in the room if it's dry. Humidity is the best method to limit ESD. Remember damage may not manifest it's presence for weeks or months.
I've handled many sticks of RAM and never blew out one; treat the insides of the phone like a RAM stick.
Some of the internal components are not harden to ESD like the external inputs. They are easily damaged/destroyed by even the smallest ESD insult.
If you can feel, hear or see static electricity, it's already more than enough to cause damage.

You are welcome. I wanted to post a thread on this but can't figure out how. Maybe I don't have the permissions to do so yet?
One reason it's important to stop rogue apks or bad settings that cause excessive battery usage is not only do they make you use more charge cycles, they can overheat the device/battery causing increased unnecessary wear.
I spent a lot of time power optimizing my Note 10+ with excellent results. Not so good out of the box though:(

Just create a new thread. The Ambassadors and Mods can review it and see if it's appropriate to make it sticky.:) Or are you having trouble finding the option to create a new thread?

Yeah the latter. Lol, where is the option?
Wasn't too concern; sooner or latter it come into view.

Are you using one of the Android Central apps, or the forum website? On the website, look for the Post New Thread button, on the same line as the Tools button and the page number selection. There's another Post New Thread button at the bottom of the list.

Huh. Still not finding it.
Not the easiest site to navigate in some respects.
Here's what I'm seeing:

Go back to the forum thread list -- you won't see a Post New Thread button while you're within a thread.
