My wife bought the LG G5 about 10 days ago. We started having problems with it charging a day or so ago. Last night I unplugged the usb-c charging cable from the phone and it was smoking. The rubber around the had plug melted. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or heard of this with the new usb-c.

If the phone was not very hot when this happened then I would say it is a defective cable - its plug is poorly connected to its wires. But if the phone got unusually hot as well, then I would take it back to the store and expect at least a battery replacement.

T-Mobile is giving us a new phone. I agree that it was probably just the cable. The phone didn't get hot.
