Question USB-C MELT

Cable was unplugged from phone and overheated at that end. Everything else was perfect(by multimeter check) Condensation (on this sailboat) may have put water in it and that short became permanent melting that end ! Could have caused a fire 🔥 Now cables go in a dry place unless I'm charging. Whew!

Yes, and I'm watching heat everywhere, like a hungry seagull. In San Diego I saw a gang(gaggle?) of them steal an entire hot pizza from a Toyota roof as he was reaching for his keys. Apparently, we have to be vigilant.
