USB connection to laptop used to slow charge

Prior to this week when I plugged my Tab S 10.5 into my laptop to move files the battery icon showed a lightning bolt and charged slowly (if not being used) or discharged slower (when being used). Now the battery icon shows a red X. Any thoughts on how I can get the charging function back?

Does this happen with other cables? Cables can fail unexpectedly.
