I have my primary google account on my phone and it's used for Gmail, Photos, and whatever other google app wants to use it.

For youtube though, I'd like to use a different google account. The trouble is, if I "Add Account" and login to Youtube. It seems to screw up the whole phone. All google apps now want to use that secondary account. So Gmail defaults to showing me the inbox of the 2nd account, I see the account logo on all the apps.

So is it possible to login to the Youtube app using different credentials without actually adding a google account to the phone? I'm thinking that my only option is to use the browser and login to it that way and just quit using the youtube app completely.

Or is there a way to tell the phone that THIS is the primary account, stop using that other one for anything unless in that app I ask to use it.

Worked out my solution. Only have one google account on the phone. For youtube, I have a shortcut on the home screen to Firefox to open youtube / subscriptions page. In Firefox (but not in Chrome) you can log out and log back in without being hijacked by Google's account management system. Try it in chrome and it wants to force you to choose an account on the phone. In Firefox you just enter an email address and a password in the login page and you're in.

Is it bad to use Firefox for my Youtube activity? It's not ideal but it's fine. It avoids the frequent annoyance of having multiple accounts and getting it to choose the right one in each app due to not having the concept of "a default account". Thousands of threads around various forums saying this is how it is and suggesting removing the primary account and then re-adding it so that it's the latest because the latest is temporarily the default. Until it isn't.

Happy :)

You might want to look into just not using Google's Youtube app to access Youtube content by using a third-party solution like NewPipe. Using NewPipe instead, you still can view Youtube stuff but you won't be logged into any Google account while doing so. Note that you do need to manually sideload the app to install it, it's not something Google will allow in its Play Store.

-- APK mirror has an established history as a safe and dependable, non-Google source for APK apps, the point being when you sideload apps it's always important to get your APKs from a valid source.
