Use my phone as a wireless adapter?

My desktop computer doesn't have a wireless adapter. For the next three months, however, I'll only have wifi access for internet. I would prefer not to buy a $50 USB wireless adapter, so I was wondering...

My phone is rooted and I can and have tethered in to my computer to use its 3G plan. Is the there any way to connect my phone to my computer so that it uses wifi instead? If so, how?

If you have wifi enabled and just tether through the USB, it should just pass the wifi through. At least that's what works for me.
