Used unrEVOked 2 or 3 and can't flash a custom rom? Check here!

Ok...something is obviously missing...try to put .zip on end of the PC36IMG file and flash it via recovery
. This should allow you to put that rom on your phone and then you can move on to the next step.

Negative. When trying to flash the recovery, the following message appears:

Install from SD card...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/pc36IMG.zip
(bad)

Installation aborted.

Edit: Tried removing the .zip extension and still no dice.

I'm getting the same message.

I'm getting this same error as well when I try to flash it from recovery...

I believe I have found what is missing. I've added it to step 1-7...everything else is the same...someone want to give a it a go?

It's a pain guys I said it before stick at it I saw the error file is older krap tons of times even tally it just pushes unrevoked isn't a true root per say so it screws us up if we need Eng-hboot

I'm at a Yankee game right now I can't be much help.

Who actually was able to push this thru besides me?

After fighting with this for hours, I finally tried SimpleRoot. If you follow the directions EXACTLY then you will end up with a full root. I am enjoying the CM6 nightly as I type!

I redid all this, this afternoon...and the only way I could get it to work was using ADB or using Simple Root. If you just Simple Root and then install rom manager from the market you can flash ClockworkMod recovery and restore you nand back up. Sorry guys...I'm not for sure how d3xn2o got it to work. Either way letting Simple Root do this for you is far easier.

Just to clarify for everyone, and for s & g's, I just got finished re-SimpleRooting my phone. After getting to step 4, and rebooting, same thing:

Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No

So, it has been established that re-rooting will not resolve this issue.

P.S. The HBoot still shows 0.79.0000

Tattr, I do appreciate all you've been doing to help us get past this issue.

P.P.S.

For add'l insight, when I tried to Flash RA_Recovery via SimpleRoot, this is what I rec'd:

Ditto...same message I'm getting.

Question...if you Simple Rooted weeks ago...why do you have still have .79 HBOOT? Did you update and then use unrevoked?

Ditto...same message I'm getting.

HBOOT won't change until after you actually get the PC36IMG from the Simple Root to take. The Recovery is installed with the PC36IMG as well. All's Simple root does is use the Flash exploit to allow you to go back to an older version...which is what gets push at the beginning. I just followed the steps through Simple Root and as if I weren't already rooted and it came out perfect.

Well I tried it again and it finally took. I think I had an old PC36IMG still on my storage card that was screwing things up. I'm good to go now and have Cyanogen's release candidate up and running. Thank you everyone for your help!
